Coming to the area from Louisiana for the beer festival in Silverton (should have booked the week later for the international beer festival) and curious about things to do. I'm staying in Concordia and I know Great Notion is in the area.
Should I go to Seattle as well? What other places should I look into?

We have this handy dandy guide that'll help most of your questions.

How long are is your trip? If it's 3 days, I wouldn't recommend going to Seattle. If it's 3 weeks I would say yes.

You're not missing much by missing the International Beer Festival; one of the most lack luster of our summer festivals imo.

Is there something in particular that made you decide to go to the Oregon Garden Brewfest? (Also, damn, I didn't realize the date on that fest had moved so far from their original dates.)

not sure what dates you're here but the Portland Fruit and Beer fest is usually in June. It's great if you like fruit, beer, hot parking lots & crowds

I'm coming I to town June 15 till the 21st. Essentially I was just looking for a festival in a state I have yet to visit. So I ended up in Portland thanks to a cheap flight. Heading to Chicago from Portland, then Dallas, and finally back home. I do plan on bringing a few beers such as Envie, Ghost in the Machine, Bloom, etc.

They're moving it to the North Park blocks this year.

Fruit beer fest has traditionally been on the second weekend in June.

Most the grocery stores have a fairly decent selection as well.

Buddy, coming from Louisiana, Portland is going to rock your world. If you're in the PNW for a week, definitely come up to Seattle for a couple of days. There's a thread for us, too.

Louisiana has stepped up, no where near the level of Portland but I'm expecting great things especially from Great Notion

I just got back from N.O. where I drank a ton of Parish Envie - which, along with Grace and Grit from Great Raft, I enjoyed more than most of the hazy beers being made here in PDX. Even Crowd Control from So. Pro. was on par with stuff here, on tap anyway (the 2-month old cans that were around weren't near as good.) I like Great Notion, but I still haven't had anything spectacular compared to hazy IPAs from other regions.

Wish I could have tried GitM while I was there but it seemed to be long gone.

Whatever you do, don't limit yourself in anyway to Great Notion. Frankly, they'd be a skip for me, or at least low on the list if it is your first visit to PDX.

    Could not agree more.

Have tried going over to GN more frequently, and have concluded they're just not my thing. I like their beers, and some of their stuff is really good, but invariably I walk away shaking my head, unable to figure out what all the fuss is about.

However, there clearly are plenty of folks who feel they're the cat's meow, so what do I know. Maybe tduecen will just love them.
