Have family traveling through Maine next week and they'll be staying in Portland on Thursday. Was wondering of any recommendations that they could pick up for me at a store besides the well known stuff (Bissell, Foundation, Maine, Allagash)? Will definitely be on the lookout for any of the aforementioned stuff but wanted other options in case the big hitters aren't available. Was going to have them stop at Bier Cellar and/or Craft Beer Cellar. Thanks in advance for the advice!
Might want to grab some Funky Bow. They make some decent stuff. Should be able to get it at craft beer cellar.
Thanks for all the advice. If I have them go to Bissell to grab some cans on Thursday is there usually a line/long wait? Also what was the special release their website had listed for this past weekend and anyone know if there would be any left? (Couldn't find what it was anywhere online.)
and, as much as Bier Cellar likes to tout their prices, hit RSVP first, as generally their prices are even lower...
No special release this weekend, just substance and baby g. They've kept having to postpone the special release numerous times because of a delay in receiving hops from Australia. I believe they recently posted that the hops arrived and the special releases are slated for the end of August.
RSVP is more of a Warehouse. They've got good stuff but it's not as organized(which is not to say it's bad) as Bier Cellar. Bier Cellar has staff that knows what's up, RSVP doesn't usually have anyone working that can add to the conversation about craft beer(and again, that's not a bad thing). Bier Cellar is more organized, more specialized, and also small enough that you can miss it if you aren't familiar with the area. Hope that helps.
Since this got bumped up - any recommendations for a place to watch the AFC Championship game this Sunday in Portland?
The Kings Head (http://www.thekingsheadportland.com/draft-list). Best beer with a big screen, and then your only problem will be getting a seat.
