Going to be visiting Portland in a couple weeks for about four days. I am looking around but am having a difficult time finding which breweries use a very small system (half barrel to about three barrels at a time).
Almost every new brewery in Portland in the last few years has come online with at least a 7 barrel system.
The only brewery I know of that uses a half barrel system would be Humble. They make great beer when you can find it - which is rare, unfortunately...
Shattered Oak Brewing in Oregon City is doing 1 bbl batches. I think Oregon City Brewing is doing 3 bbl. Look on the periphery of Portland and you are more likely to find "Nano breweries".
Gateway Brewing is currently operating a 1/2 bbl system in the owners' garage. An article in New School Beer notes that this is "...phase one, while finalizing a location and 10bbl brewhouse." Gateway Brewing @TexlaCopperpot - Why are you interested specifically in nano breweries?
