I'm visiting Portland the 2nd week of November for the 1st time. It will be a beer tasting trip. Could someone please recommend their top 10 breweries in the Portland area? Thanks!

The Places feature here on BA is a great tool to use when traveling. Here's a list of places in Portland that are classed as 'Brewery' in the Places search procedure, then I sorted the resulting list by clicking on the 'Rating' column header. http://www.beeradvocate.com/place/list/?&s_id=OR&city=portland&brewery=Y&sort=name&sort=rating

Portland is a great place to experience a lot of great beer. Get yourself some good walking shoes. I'm going to be out there for a few days in mid-November, and am looking forward to it. (I was there for 3 days last year too.)

P.S. This thread may get moved to the Northwest forum, so look for it there @BrewPSU.

Great information. I live in the Tampa area. We have incredible beer here but I've heard Portland is the best. I can't wait. Thank you.

Like MGoose said there's a comprehensive thread in the NW forum that covers the breweries very well.

Me and the wife was just there a month ago and stayed in the Alberta St. area. I would recommend getting on the downtown streetcar system and ride from place to place, there are a bunch within a couple blocks of the stops. $5 rides all day.

Baileys tap room is #1 stop -- then go about 20 yards down the street to the iconic Mary's. No joke -- they had a very well kept line of Dechustes beers on tap last time I was in Portland. Oh -- your were Interested in breweries? Never mind.....

I know you asked about breweries, but my standard bit of advice is: Don't limit yourself to breweries while you're here. It would be a shame to spend a week here and miss out on some excellent Oregon beers that aren't made in Portland.

I am here from NYC now. Seek out Boneyard Notorious and thank me later.

Unfortunately, Notorious comes out sporadically (every two or three months roughly, in my experience), and as the latest release seems to be making the rounds right now, my guess is it won't be available during the OP's visit. Could be wrong though, so definitely look around (as it's an absolutely delicious IIIPA). If it is available, almost certainly the Apex will have it (it's on tap there right now). Their prices tends to be the highest in town for Notorious (and they only serve it in a 6 ounce glass), but at least they do carry it, most of the time.

I had it at Henrys Tavern. And it was a big pour, had to be at least 12 ounces, was in a very big tulip style glass.

I'm not surprised. 10 or 12 ounce pours are usually the norm for notorious, and I've even gotten it by the pint on occasion. Apex is the only place I know of that serves notorious solely in 6 ounce glasses. That's likely part of the reason they tend to have it on tap so much of the time.
