My parents are visiting Portland today and offered to grab me some beers if I tell them what I'm looking for. I know Foundation and Bissell Brothers are closed today but I was wondering what some other Maine only type beers they might be able to find are. I get Allagash and MBC here in NJ so would likely pass on those unless they have stuff that only stays up there. I know this is pretty broad but any assistance would be very helpful. Thanks!
Stoneface is from NH but they make some pretty good IPA/IIPA. There are also clear dates on the bottles so just make sure you get something fresh.
I'd just give them some style guidelines and send them into Bier Cellar. Have them ask whoever's working for recommendations, and you'll probably be psyched with what they come back with. Edit: Bier Cellar should also have a limited drop of Substance at some point this afternoon.
Rising Tide has some great beers available, and their tap room is a fun visit too! I'd especially recommend Maine Island Trail Ale (MITA), and Calcutta Cutter. Oxbow and Sebago are fun visits too! Sebago Frye's Leap IPA is delicious when fresh, and available in cans to-go.
Thanks so much everyone! So far they've grabbed me Rising Tide MITA, Stoneface Mozaccalypse and Forge. They're going to check out Allagash for Coolship Red and Bier Cellar for Substance too I think!
