We will be staying in Portsmouth later this month and are looking to stock up on local and Vermont Brews to take home. During our yearly visits in the past we stayed in the Stowe area and always stocked up on Heady and Focal before heading home. Are there any good shops in Portsmouth or Kittery?
Spruce Creek is closed. Carl's Meat Market is a great place for beer shopping, oddly enough. Also in Kittery, and you'll be able to load up on Maine favorites and there are typically some great Belgian stuff. Last time I was there, I grabbed a couple different Fantome.
I know you're asking about packaged beer, but...When Pigs Fly Pizzeria in Kittery has a remarkably good beer list. I was very, very happy the day I walked in and found that they had just opened a keg of Hill Farmstead Edward.
Thank you. I will check out Carl's and City. Pigs Fly is om my list of places to eat with great tap lists.
Certainly check out those above. I live in Portsmouth and honestly distribution to NH is not great and we really don’t have a solid shop. Except for the city on the Rt 1 bypass in ports. They do a pretty good job. Also, Prost, which is about 15 minutes south off rt 1 in I believe north Hampton. You’re best bet it to shop in Mass or Maine for beer. MA - One Stop in Haverhill has an excellent selection. It’s right off of 495 and only about 25 minutes or so from Portsmouth. Also RMA in Amesbury off 495 is good. About 20 minutes south.
Thank you. If we do not have success in Kittery, the places South of Portsmouth may be on our way home.
Curious what you ended up scoping out, and if you came away with any new tips? I'll be in Portsmouth and Kittery later this week and was browsing for tips and saw this thread
Portsmouth Mckinnons has a large selection of cans. They typically always have fresh Fiddlehead/ Lawson’s/ Maine Beer, etc. I second Carl’s, The City and Prost.
Black Birch and Festina Lente in Kittery, also Raleigh in Portsmouth has been killing it lately. Liars Bench for lunch if you want great Sammie’s/small plates and a pour of lager.
