I'm heading up to Storyland with the family Sunday-Tuesday and wanted to hit Portsmouth Brewing Co on the ride up to break up the ride for our 2.5 yr old, and of course for a pint/lunch.

I know Smuttynose is local but isn't open, anything else decent around town that's worth checking out?

    TIA.

Blue Lobster just south of Pmouth in Hampton.

Some people have expressed positive opinions about Earth Eagle tasting room in Pmouth, but I wasnt impressed

Blue Lobster is in Hampton on the way to Portsmouth (open Sunday of the days). Earth Eagle is pretty close to Pbrew in town.

Just so you know and if you're on a schedule, Blue Lobster has no food and only serves tasters (there is a restaurant next door). If you still want to go to Pbrew for pints and lunch it will be about 30 minutes depending on traffic and parking.

What were you not impressed with? I love their beer - their IPAs are spot on and I think rival some of the best in New England (if not the US).

Community Oven is the pizza place next door (sit down restaurant, not a fast food pizza place) with a nice bar and some local taps.

Out of the 4 samples I had, only one didn't have some kind of off flavor

Wow, that's a bold statement. Granted, I've only been there once (in April) but the IPA they had on tap at the time was the worst of the line-up. It had no focus at all and wasn't at all hoppy (aroma, flavor, or bitterness wise). I know they make a bunch of different beer so maybe this was just not typical, but I wasn't impressed myself.

Weird that was one of my favorite brewery stops during our NE trip, in which we went to 26 breweries a month back. I thought their Citra pale ale was great and I really liked the Gruits I tried. Brewer/tap room guy were super friendly as well and great music playing the entire time we were there

FYI - I believe Longstaff was referring to Earth Eagle: "Some people have expressed positive opinions about Earth Eagle tasting room in Pmouth, but I wasnt impressed"
