Hopefully their site is right, but the Dram’s site said Substance is on tap right now. Definitely could be wrong though.

Please do check tbe corner pub. Jake who curates the beer selection does a really great job to mix up the styles offered. If you know the bar before Glen and Michael(Lil’s owner and building) has done a great job fixing it up after the sale. The outside patio is a good time and a new welcome addition to the area. Also support lils for coffee and crullers in the am.

    Also let’s not forget Tulsi.

Carl’s around the corner has a great bottle selection and butcher goods to go and sandwiches

Excellent recommendations in this thread! But I gotta ask every Mass visitor's most pressing question: Who has the best mid-week Happy Hours in Portsmouth? Looking for good apps/oysters and good beer obviously.
    Thanks!

Just finished up 4 days in Kittery/Portsmouth and I appreciated the recommendations in the thread. A couple quick notes:

-Black Birch was great for apps and a Mott the Lesser on tap. BB is just getting their indoor dining up and running again so their tap list was running at half capacity.
-Spruce Creek had some goofy hours. Tried to go on a Sunday when their hours were 12-5 and they were closed. Popped back in on Tuesday and grabbed a 4-pack of Belleflower’s pale ale. Small selection, seemingly fresh though. Worker said Kittery has been suffering a bit with Canadians unable to cross the border due to COVID. Everything in Kittery seems to be closed on Monday’s and Tuesday’s and on days they are open closing time is early. Not sure if this is a Kittery thing, COVID thing, or both.
-Tributary in Kittery was a nice quick stop while the Sunday Farmer’s Market was going on. Solid, not going to blow your mind, but it’s a must stop to tip your cap.
-If you’re heading towards the Ogunquit area, Anthony’s off the York exit has a nice selection of cans. Once you get to the other side of downtown Ogunquit, Food for Thought has arguably the best draft/can list in the area but the food menu is trying a little too hard to be inventive. Think carnival food on steroids.

Sorry- this is a Portsmouth thread. So much good stuff in Maine that we didn’t spend a ton of time in Portsmouth. That’s what next summer’s trip is for I suppose.

All makes sense here. Yeah BB list is still not what it was before COVID. The weird hours for some were normal on Monday's and Tuesdays but COVID made many this way. There are far more options open in Portsmouth early week. Food for thought is excellent and we’ve brought some amazing cans and bottles home. All their inventory can be taken home. Nice to bring a bottle of 3 Fon to the family. Check out food for thoughts new brewery Odd By Nature in York on RT 1. Also did you make it to definitive brewing a block north from Spruce Creek? Open daily and excellent

Made it to Definitive for a couple quick pours while waiting for our When Pigs Fly order to be ready. I’d been to the Portland location a couple times but this was my first time at the Kittery spot. Had the Euphoric Nights as well as the Odd Side collab, both were good.

Did not put two and two together with Odd Side and FFT until you brought it up. Drove past the brewery at least 4-5 times and it was closed. I just looked at the menu and now it makes so much sense that it’s connected to FFT. Their beers tend to rate pretty well and they are almost unapologetic about the fact that they make all of the trendy stuff (fruited sours, pastry stouts, milkshake IPAs, etc) that people went nuts over 2 years ago but but now a segment of the beer drinking populace frowns upon. I plan on checking it out the next time we stay up here.

I found Definitive's list to be similar to this as well (at least the Portland location).

Our night 6/19 in Portsmouth went like this.

Lunch Saturday at River House, awesome view right on the river but damn it was crazy expensive! $44 for an ok lobster roll?!? Had several Stoneface IPAs though, an old favorite that has gotten strangely harder to find around Boston.

A couple of drinks at Thirsty Moose, but we were really turned off by our waitress dumping all of her issues on us within the first 60 seconds of meeting her. So we bailed early.

Dinner at The Wilder. The poutine there, my GAWD it was awesome. And I had the bucket of fried chicken. It was pretty good and actually very inexpensive. But I would have been just has happy to get the poutine again for a meal. Overall cool vibe and good food, wife didn't love it though as they severely undercooked her chicken sandwich.

Sunday morning we had Popovers on the Square, pretty good but wasn't wildly impressed. Headed up to Kittery after for lobster rolls at Bobs Clam Hut. Awesome. Checked out the online list at Definitive but nothing on it I wanted to pickup. Tried to go to Spruce Creek but it was closed for Fathers Day. Hit up the trading post before heading back home.

All in all, Portsmouth is a very cool walking city. Would definitely go back again.

$44 for one lobster roll is the most preposterous shit I've ever heard of.

Yep, no prices on the menu of course. I didn't think to ask, I knew would be kind of expensive, like $30ish. But for real, $44.

Picked lobster meat is retailing for $59.99 in ME. Low supply is driving up cost.

Still, I had some amazingly stuffed lobster rolls in Cape Cod a couple weeks ago for under $30. $44 is crazy.

    Yeah, that's nuts.

High Roller in Portland was selling their lobster taco for $28 and lobster roll for $26.

Bite into Maine at Allagash was charging about $26 for their lobster roll flight.

And at Union Square this past weekend at Hooked I saw their lobster roll was $24. And that's Union Square in Somervile, which typically is NOT cheap for anything.

Yes sorry. My parents lived ON the Cape for many years so especially egregious on my part.

I’d actually call the restaurant and check on that. Hate to say it but as of a week or so ago they were under $30. You might have incurred an error or someone was just being a dick. The lack of workers in the area have made things rough. I found the same even in Boston when visiting

I guess I feel lucky that my summer spot is on the South Shore. Lobster rolls at the Bridgewaye in Humarock are $21.99 and are wicked good. Jumbo rolls are $25.99 and well worth the $4 upgrade, ton of meat in those things.
