Possible overcarbing?

    I go by weight. Boil it in a cup or 2 of water for 5 minutes, cover and cool in the fridge. Normally somehwere around 4oz for a 5 gal batch. It depends on style sometimes. I also go by the range for the style given in Beer Smith. I pick the middle of the carb range they give.

    FWIW, I use 3.7 ounces (by weight) of table sugar when I prime my beers. I think 4 ounces is a tad too much but I would not think that amount would result in gushers.

    It is a mystery to me why you have gushers. Sorry I couldn’t help.

    No biggie, as long as I open them over the sink I'm golden. If I crash them in the fridge they seem ok. Doesn't deter me from them, just a question. Still quite tasty. Had a brown ale, a CDA, and an oaked English IPA do it so far. Still good beers in my book!
