We called this a “Power Shower” in college. When we took the train into Manhattan to party on the weekends, the guys would buy Sweet Action cans for the girls with the requirement that they could only use cold water for their shower.
This accomplished two things: girls slamming 16oz of beer in 3 minutes, and everyone getting in and out of the shower and on our merry way to drink more in under an hour.

Ah, college...it was a simpler time...

Something light and highly carbonated. A Berliner Weiss is perfect after a long run!

NO LIGHT BEER- stouts all the way! I had a Schlafly Oatmeal Stout after a half in St Louis, and it felt like the best beer of my life.

Pale ales are my favorite after a run. I have found drinking high ABV beers when you are very thirsty can be dangerous. In my pre-craft beer days, about 10 years ago, I used Old English 800 as part of my mosh pit training routine to prepare for heavy metal concerts, and the conditions that I would experience there. I would do sprints, push-ups, pound all that I could from a 40-ounce, run up and down bleachers, pound some more malt liquor, do more sprints, dips, then finish the 40-ounce. It worked. I was always the last man standing in the mosh pit, and I never got injured.

Beer tents seem to be getting more popular at 5k/10k road races. I don’t always feel like a beer after a run, but when I do I usually opt for something lighter like a pale ale. I had a Bells Oatsmobile after a race this summer and it tasted great on a very warm and humid summer morning.

I used to go to a climbing gym in Brussels where the built-in cafe had Westmalle Tripel and Rochefort 8. Rehydrating after a long climbing session there got a bit dangerous.

IPA or Pale Ale are both really refreshing. I used to do this all the time when my schedule was weird.

Grab an ice-cold AAL and head to the shower. Likely not the best post-workout routine, but damn is it refreshing

There was a fitness model on YT who would regularly consume 2 bud lights per day to meet macro requirements lol. So he claimed. Who the hell knows.

One of my old coaches was an Albanian guy who swore by drinking a beer or two after a HIIT workout.

Not sure the hydration science behind it, but it seemed to work for him. Maybe he was just really thirsty?

If I recall it was a German/Mexican Lager.

Water or a protein shake. Drinking alcohol after training, especially weight training, is just plain stupid.

I would argue one 12 ounce Hefe -Weizen is a great post workout beverage. I'd much rather drink that than water and I bet it's better for me too. All you get with water is, well, water. Hefe-Weizen has water too but is nutritious, replenishes carbs, and is low in alcohol. No need to worry about being further dehydrated from one 12 ounce bottle of hefe.

I've read that wheat beers are typically made with a specific type of yeast that also produces a large amount of polyphenols during fermentation. These a known to be great in inflammation prevention.

Most wheat beers are unfiltered (hence the cloudiness) which are usually full of B vitamins.

Ill play along. If the reason you’re working out is to lose weight then drinking alcohol post workout is pretty counterintuitive. You’ll kickstart your metabolism through exercise only to see it slowed by alcohol. If you don’t really care about all that then I suggest pounding a few of your favorite beers. Now Pre workout as in a day before NOT right before. I run a fair amount and find that my best and most energetic runs are my Sunday morning runs. They follow Friday and Saturday beer consumption and I’m all carb loaded up. Cheers

True if your goal is to lose weight then water is the way to go due to calories. If you are just looking to replenish yourself I would argue Hefe-Weizen beats Gatorade any day and probably has less calories.

Yes but the decision on post workout beverage isn’t just about calories. As stated alcohol will slow down your metabolism. Post workout your body will continue to burn sugar and fats for up to 48 hours so boozing up immediately afterward is pretty stupid. Of course a small amount of alcohol or one lower alcohol beer won’t bring your metabolism to a screeching halt. I would say but you certainly wouldn’t want to make booze a habit after workouts if your goal is to burn fat and or build muscle.
