My favorite chapter in the 101 text was "Beer Superstition and Body Sculpture". Roy Williams?

In my opinion, if it takes you a day to recover, you're not working out hard enough. That's not to say work out that hard several times a week, that is too much. All it takes is about 1 day a week per major muscle group, providing that you stress your muscles enough. Sure, you'll stop hurting after a day or so, but you're not fully recovered.

Think about it, we evolved enduring hardship, just like any animal. Once in a while we got in fights (to the death, usually) with rival animals, and you better believe if you survived the fight, your ass would be a lump of pot roast for a couple days, plus a few more to raise you physiological headroom to prepare you for the next possible fight. This would also apply to persistence hunting, and sprinting like hell away from an animal that you know you can't beat in a fight. We evolved to adapt to extreme hardship, rather than legs on Wednesday and chest on Friday yadda yadda yadda.

Than again, I just drink beer and read stuff... What do readers know? Cheers.

I am a Actice Duty Infantryman, stationed at Ft. Drum. I work out twice a day ( am/pm), five days a week. I have been doing this for 7years now. I typically recover in a day. However, while I was in Afghanistan, certain high elevation locations slowed that down a day or so.

Two years ago the Army started testing these cooling units that go on your hands, on some soldiers that basically put you back in the game, fully recovered in under 30 mins. My guess this tech is limited to the elite.

By fully recovered I mean, total body ph stabilization and muscle capacity back to full strength.

Slightly off topic, I heard a story today of a guy that lost weight eating only sausage and drinking beer for Oktoberfest on the news...anyone hear that craziness?

After my weekly yoga class I love a good cider. It's super refreshing and after an intense class I can get quite a buzz after 1 or 2. And I agree with a lot of you, it's all about moderation.

IPAs taste AMAZING after a long run or tennis match. The hops and vegetal presence come through so well on the palate. I think it's the style that tastes the best after a good workout.

I think having one after a workout isn't too bad, but I'm sure it's not necessarily good for you. Anything that inhibits your ability to re-hydrate after a workout is going to hurt you on some level.

I feel like I'm reading a Michelob Ultra or Miller 64 commercial. Something needs to be conceded, your beer or your hugeness. Once you hit 40 your hugness surrenders anyway, so I'd choose to keep the beer.

first off alcohol lowers testosterone and slows down its production. increases fat storage. lowers protein sythesis. its does a number of things if not done in moderation ! if you do workout and drink regularly; those gains you been wanting to make but cant are more than likely from the brews your hammering back at night. i work pretty hard at keeping my beergut in check with 4-5 clean meals a day and a gallon of water gets in my system befor i start tossin back brews... as for the main question the Op is asking , i would never drink a beer post work out !

I usually drink two BCBS AS each workout.

So far I haven't noticed drinking another beer immediately afterward has had any negative impact on the results of my training regimen.
