So the lady is treating me to a little bit of a weekend getaway out of the city (we live in Philly). Well be crashing at a hotel in Pottsville Friday night so we can check out a state park and doing some kayaking the following morning, then heading to Phoenixville for the rest of the day and staying there thru Sunday for Blobfest.

Anyway, outside of the Sly Fox Brewery or tasting room (I don't foresee the new tasting room opening within the next 3 days since there's been no updates on that) and Iron Hill Phoenixville, any places you recommend?

Living in Philly I know I'm spoiled when it comes to great bars with easy access, but I'm not expecting or looking for anything with dozens of taps or rarities or the like. Just a place with solid grub and a taplist that goes beyond labatt as their most interesting tap.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Pickering Creek Inn in Phoenixville has a dozen beers on tap. Most are craft beers.

I would recommend the food at Iron Hill over Pickering Creek Inn.

    Cheers!

Railroad Street in Linfield is well worth the stop for a great beer selection and very good bar food. After Village Whiisky, it has the best burger I've had, local grass fed. 38 taps, 30 some of which are craft. Craft Ale House in Limerick too of course. In P'ville, if you are a wood fired thin crust pizza purist get a six of something then go to Vecchia's at Bridge and Gay. Menu: pizza. Toppings: anchovies or sopressetta, that's it. French Quarter Bistro in Royersford has pretty good Cajun and a good beer list. Lucky Lab took over the Royersford Sly Fox location. They have a good tap/bottle list and decent food.

A bunch of us did a kayak trip from Towpath Park to Blackrock this past Saturday with a lunch break at Railroad Street and dinner at Sly Fox. Fun day.

There are two very good BYOs in Pottstown, Henry's and Funky Little Kitchen if you be into that.

I HIGHLY recommend Craft Ale House in Limerick. Though note that they are closed on Sundays. Also in the area is Appalachian Brewing in Collegeville. Those would be my choices.

Craft Ale House can be very crowded Friday and Saturday nights for dinner, but as noted above, it's a great place.
Railroad Street is maybe 5 minutes from CAH.

Haha yea I just saw they were open via Facebook. Looks like I was wrong!! Thanks for the tips. Definitely gonna check out craft ale house for dinner Friday night as its really right along the way to the hotel and I've been wanting to go there for a while.

Not sure if I'll be able to check out the new tasting room or not as it would have to be Friday night, and it's a good 5 miles from the hotel. So I don't want to mix drinking and driving. But maybe I can convince the girlfriend to swing through there after dinner and grab a growler fill or something to go and consume it at our room.

    From the Beeryard site:

The Tastin’ Room at the Sly Fox Brewery in Pottstown will open to the public on Thursday, July 12, at 11:30am.. The brewery is located at 331 Circle of Progress Drive at the Pottstown Airport,
The new pub will open Wednesday through Sunday at 11:30am every week , closing at 8pm on Sunday, 9pm on Wednesday and Thursday, 10pm Friday and Saturday.
There are 30 taps (not all active all the time), seating for 100 at the bar and long communal tables, plus a small patio our front. It's a self service menu featuring pizzas and pulled pork sandwiches.--JACK CURTIN

Victory in Downingtown is maybe 20 or 25 minutes from Phoenixville, and well worth the trip.

Love Henry's . . . went last Thursday. Best to call and make reservations ( but normally this time a year it is easy to get in). Bring an extra beer or two for Frank (owner/chef) as he likes to try different beers.

One thing to remember about Henry's you are there for the night, so go with people you like and relax. If you are looking for a place to get a quick meal, this is not it. Not at all trying to sound negative, it's actually one of the things we love about it. They are not trying to turn the table rush you out. When making our reservation we ask to have charcuterie placed on our table when we arrive, so we have something to nibble on while we have a beer and decide what we want to eat.
