Did anyone see this from yesterday on their Facebook page?

    "Keg, Powder

    7/9/2014 -- 3/10/2018

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the closing of Powder Keg Brewing Company, effective Saturday, March 10th, 2018. Powder Keg fought long battles with rent costs that outpaced sales growth, on-premise sales that declined with increased market saturation and regrettably low foot traffic. Powder Keg will be fondly remembered by beer lovers, Niwot locals and Zach.

Powder Keg is survived by memories of beer releases full of energy and excitement, Tuesday Nerd Talks, bluegrass jams, a space for local musicians to showcase their talents, and a plethora of beers we were incredibly proud of: Premiere Blanc, Palisade Reunion, Keyboard Warrior, Intergalactic, Supervoid, Heritage series beers and of course Underground membership beers...

A celebration of Powder Keg will be held on Saturday, March 10th from noon-10pm. Please keep an eye on our events page for special tappings, cellar releases and crowler releases. In lieu of gifts we are asking that everyone come up and have a beer with us. In remembrance, please go drink beers and support your favorite independent breweries- every beer is precious."

I only went a few times but I always thought their beer and especially the guest taps they had available were quite good. Guess it just goes to show how the beer bubble in the Front Range is starting to burst (especially in some of these smaller towns a bit further from Metro Denver). Regardless to say, it's really sad to see a place like this trying really hard to make it and not afraid to experiment with styles go out of business. RIP Powder Keg.

I’m pretty bummed about this. I’m in Michigan but lucked into trading for Fruitful Union a while back and was really impressed. I had heard good things about Heritage as well...

    Cheers, Powder Keg!

Damn I've been saving up to go on a beer cation in Colorado and I was hoping to land more fruitful Union, I love that beer.

I believe Amalgam Brewing will still be operating

It is in a tough spot. Niwot isn't exactly on our usual beer route. I've only made it there once and it was only because it was at a request for a trade partner.
I did really like their coffee stout and it sounds like their sours are well respected.
I never did get my hands on their BA stout.
As they cited, rising lease/property costs are probably going cause small breweries some severe stress if it isnt already

This is 100% true. Phil and Eric are bringing their recipes from PK to Amalgam. Taproom will eventually be open in Denver. Much better than going to the bum fuck location they’re at now. In addition to the rising cost for rent at the brewery, location was a huge factor as well.

That's really too bad. I've liked everything I've had from them. I've never been over there, so I guess I'm part of the problem. Too much driving around required to visit the various breweries in and around Boulder.

Without a doubt one of my favorite spots in Boulder county, sad to see this news. Many fond memories visiting the taproom; weeknight bluegrass jams, the early bottle releases where nearly everyone in attendance was a familiar face (Palisade Reunion B1, Fruitful Union OG), riding our bikes up there from Gunbarrel on a sunny weekend day...

Going to try my best to get up there this week. So many amazing beers made in that building, hope to catch a few rarities if I do go. Amalgam can't open that taproom soon enough. With the quality beers made by Phil & co at PK, Amalgam will surely be at the top of my list of places to drink in Denver right from the start!

For those of us who don't know, can someone explain the Power Keg - Amalgram connection?

Bummer! The sour beers they made were surprisingly good. I think one of the things that hampered them was their location, despite a large amount of traffic and close proximity to the diagonal, that never translated into traffic into the brewery.

And their batch sizes were pretty small, which makes it hard to be profitable.

That blows. I was hoping to trades for some palisades reunion, really liked this beer.

That's a real bummer. Unfortunately, I think we may just be hitting the tip of the iceberg.

That sucks. I actually really enjoyed the times I visited Beryl's. It was a low-key spot in a very popular area, so it was nice to take a break there. I thought their beer was pretty solid too.

One curious thing is that there are already breweries "in talks" for the space. Tough to say what that really means, but I'd say that's a risk for anyone that isn't a known quantity. It's not like Beryls had anything less than a stellar reputation. I'm not so sure anyone that size can move in and hope to do much better. It could make for a solid satellite location for our bigger players up north, though.

Beryls did a little too much with wine barrel aging for me, but I really liked the BA Firewalker. They had some other good ones too.
But I did only visit as a quick walk from Epic and only if they had something listed on their site that I was interested in. I definitely didn't just stop in to see what they had.
All that road construction was a pain. It's too bad that now that there's actually sidewalks to get there, it's now that they couldn't keep the doors open

Without starting a new "closing brewery" thread: Nighthawk is closing down. Though I was tempted to Groupon them, I never did get there, but they also never posted beers I was interested in and I read terrible reviews.
Looks like having a brewery in some far off, secluded industrial park is no longer sustainable.
