Another data point here. Make what you will of it.

I opened a bottle of Praecocia shortly after it became available. There was a lot of brown-sugary sweetness and apricots, and not much in the way of barrel character or what I consider old ale attributes. No tartness.

I disagree....ever hear of not judging a book by its cover? Who expects cost recovery from a non infected bottle? If you can't afford to spend $40 a bottle you may not like then just don't.

To me its plain and simple - I was going to buy a reserve society membership for 2014...have not liked the bruery's recent offerings...therefore I will not purchase one. Maybe I blew 30 on a bottle but they lost thousands from me next year.

I mean, why are we on here in the first place? Personally 90% of my BA use is reading reviews before I purchase a beer....

Perhaps he should also burp them and change their diapers.

This is a product. Sold for profit. The consumer chooses to buy the product.

    Like product? Buy product.

Don't like product? Don't buy product. Buy other product.

This is a pattern of commerce that has been happening for hundreds of years.

Last time I was in the tasting room, the air tasted sour. Do you think the tasting room is infected guys?

I'm not sure why I'm being attacked for pointing out that quality issues can erode consumer confidence in buying into the brand, but okay buddy.

You're not being attacked, but stating that you're "forced" to buy beer for being in the RS, when you already get your $ worth in allocations, is laughable. Like I said, I joined RS for 2014 and i don't feel like I'm forced to buy beer. I'll order what I think I'd like/want when they go on sale. If I haven't had it, I order 1 bottle. If I like it and have the ability to order more, I do. If not, then I'll get more next year. If it's something I know is extremely limited, I'll buy my full allocation. If I like it, great. If not, I'll let others I know try it and if they like it I know they'll buy my bottles. There's nobody with a gun to your head demanding you buy beer. If you feel force to buy, then maybe you shouldn't be in RS or should split a membership.

    Okay, buddy?

To address a few posts... Yes my friends and I have different taste buds, the main flavor we all tasted was sour, can't speak for my friends (although I know they didn't like it), but to me the sour didn't belong. I can drink beer that others drain pour (I have pretty agreeable taste buds), and this beer wasn't the worst ever, but pretty bad. I've had a good amount of Bruery beers and have never tasted these off-flavors before (it was more than sour, a little harsh on the backend, wish I could explain it better, more experienced palettes would probably be naming some chemicals right now). In fact I've never had a beer from the Bruery I didn't really like and I just about hated this one. There's plenty of beers I find bad, but I've found if I hate it, there's almost always something off about it. Just find it really hard to believe this is what the Bruery was going for here.
Don't mind you guys going at it on here, but if there's anyone else who has had this beer and wouldn't mind saying what they thought of it, that would be much appreciated... To the people who tasted sour/tart, but didn't say how it was, did you love it, hate it, etc? To clarify, it was tart to me, but definitely pretty sour also, just a little tartness from the apricots wouldn't have been disappointing or unexpected.
The person who didn't get any tartness from his bottle says something to me...

If some bottles are very sour/tart and others are not sour/tart at all, then that sounds like an infection. Would like to hear more people chime in though.

    OP:
Not being a dick here. I had Preacocia at the brewery and it was sour and strong. It was described to me, causally, in one sentence, as a 'sour strong ale" (and i fucking loved it).
I hadn't read the description of the beer.
I'll buy/trade your bottles if you don't want them. I'll be there on Black Tuesday BM if you want to part with them.

Personally I wouldn't be shocked if it turns out that it was soured unintentionally
I cant see how they can make all those soured and non soured beers in the same facility and not expect some trouble.... (though i know others breweries do it). However FWIW Ive had some beers that were infected that I quite liked...'12 ODell Bourbon Barrel Stout comes to mind...i liked it better tart...

But more power to you if you think the beer was misrepresented and you want to take it up with The Bruery.

My only complaint about Praecocia bottles is that they are overcarbed to the point that it makes it difficult to discern the different flavors in the beer.

I cracked a Praecocia last weekend. And there was a slight tartness to it. Didnt taste infected, but didnt represent the style aimed for. Just my 2 cents

Glad you enjoyed it, wish I did. Even if I knew for sure it was infected, if it was good I wouldn't have bothered to make this thread, but it sucked. I'd give you my bottles in a heartbeat if I had more, fortunately I only bought one.

I think it's almost a compliment to The Bruery that many people immediately think every "meh" beer is infected.

Maybe instead of putting descriptions of the beer on the bottle, The Bruery should just start putting the data from their lab analysis.

The bottles should come with a QR code that when scanned shows every flavor and aroma compound found in the analysis?
