I had praecocia last night on tap and had no idea of what type of beer it was. I had no expectations and I thought it tasted good, but not as good as berazzled or rueuze. Definitely didn't think it was infected. Just a thought; take it for what it's worth.

Yea, all infections aside... I'd rather be forced to chug a dozen 2013 WCs than have to drink another Praecocia.

I just opened my first bottle of Praecocia and if they had gone with that in describing it - a strong, sour brown - they would've mostly hit the mark. The way they wrote the description and labeled it - as a rich old ale with apricots added - is really a misnomer. This smells, tastes, and drinks like a sour brown ale in the vein of Supplication or Consecration, albeit not as good as either of the aforementioned sours. The strong malt notes just aren't there. It also slowly gushed when I opened it and even after pouring approximately 20cl into a glass, I had to put the bottle in the sink because it was foaming over - either they really screwed the pooch on carbonation, or something is continuing to eat residual sugars.

It's possible that no bacteria or wild yeast ended up in the beer and that this is purely the influence of the apricots, but if that's the case, they really got carried away in adding fruit and could've blended it with something else to reduce the sourness (unless they already had the labels printed or something). I dunno, only the Bruery knows what their intent and process were with the beer, but it seems to be a miss both from the standpoint of an old ale w/ fruit, as well as from being a great sour brown. I'm curious to see where it goes in 6 to 12 months, but I'd be surprised if anything great comes of it.

Personally I don't see it anywhere near the vein of Supplication or Consecration.

I was curious, too, about the 6 to 12 months, but gave my last bottle away last weekend, as I wasn't that curious.

I don't think it's infected but it's definitely too carbonated.

I had both the 2013 & 2012 side by side the other night with friends. Having them side by side I could taste the differnce in each vintage. But I didn't get a gusher from the 13', nor did I taste a bad or sour taste in it. Don't get me wrong, they did taste different but both tasted good in their own way. I prefer the 2012 more, but still think the 2013 was good.

I shared a bottle of Cacaonut last night, and again got no off flavors. I expected something to be flawed with the beer, but found nothing wrong with it. My buddy also thought the same.

I was lucky to be invited to The Bruery's blending party last Sunday. And was lucky to get that ticket. At the event we were able to Taste White Oak Sap by itself. I think that the White Oak Sap was good, and see where the flavors of White Oak Sap comes out in WC and Praecocia came from. I was at last years BT dinner when they sampled the White Oak Sap 2012, and it tasted a little sweeter and less wheatiness in flavor. I would think that this difference in White Oak Sap vintages would attribute to the different flavors from this years beers compared to last years.

I am happy with what they have going on now. And feel that their customer service is awesome! Yeah, some beers are expensive. But you aren't forced to buy them. I guess I'm lucky to live close to The Bruery, and get a chance to try most beers on tap before purchasing a large amount. I think they are doing a great job, and will continue to support them!

Had a bottle of Praecocia last night. It gushed, has super carbonated. Pretty sour... Not sure how this is supposed to be an old ale in bourbon barrels. No one liked it.

Hmmm, I didn't get much sourness at all, just dirty rotting orange peel or something like that.

I opened a bottle of this over the weekend and it gushed for a long time, poured terribly, tasted worse, and I ended up having to pour the bottle out. It was undrinkable. I, too, am a big fan of the Bruery and was really disappointed to come across this. I have one bottle left and am wary of it. None of the WC '13s I've opened have been bad, so this is my first time noting a beer that definitely appears to have been infected from the Bruery.

Same experience as the rest of you. Opened one bottle a crack, saw it starting to gush, so left it in the sink to slowly release pressure. Came back half hour later and it was still slowly bubbling so finally just popped the cap all the way and it gushed out a good portion of the beer. Turns out, no big loss, since none of us finished the remainder that was poured into our glasses.

Best case - this beer was a complete miss and way over carbonated. Worst case - infection.

Opened a bottle to check and see what was happening, and yeah, I had gushing issues also. Drainpour. Too many Bruery drainpours this year :slight_frown:
