Mrs. Kozel and I are going back to Prague for the 10th time since 2003. We've been to loads of Bars and Microbreweries and love Czech beer, but would like to try somewhere new to us. So...anyone been recently who can recommend anywhere that they particularly enjoyed?

Do you follow the Pivni Filosof on Facbook and/or read any of Evan Rail's columns? They usually have some great tips on less-well-known places. But the old standbys ain't bad either.... Good luck!

Yeah, I'm an admirer of Evan, but having been so many times, there's really nowhere he's been to that we haven't. Totally agree about all bars we regularly go to and happy to go back to them, just looking for something new.
Going to U Kunstatu for their beer degustation, can't wait.

What are some of the microbreweries you've visited in Prague? I went in '13 w/ the wife and we liked U tri Ruzi.

    Thanks

    U Tri Ruzi,
    Klasterni Pivovary Strahov,
    Pivovarsky Dum,
    Novometsky Pivovary,
    U Fleku,
    U Medvidku.

Hoping to get to Brevnovsky Klaster on this visit.

Brevnov Klaster is an easy tram trip from central Prague.
Other easy-to-visit brewpubs in the suburbs of Prague are U Bulovky (Richter) in Liben, and Jihometsky in Chodov.
There is also one in Holesovice -- see PivniFilosof's blog.
Beroun, an easy 30 min train trip has a great brewpub in the middle of a scrap yard.

My advice is to use the tram system to explore the suburbs for new pubs and breweries. Nowadays, I rarely venture into central Prague when I visit.

    Thank you.
Already worked out the tram stop for Brevnov Klaster and also looking at going to Privni Pivni Tramway.

Personally, I wouldn't recommend trekking out to PPT.
You would be better stopping off in the Nusle suburb. There you have Zly Casy, Pivovar Basta brew pub (with a superb tank PU pub next door). Just up the hill is U Klokocnika, a local Kacov pub.

Also, have you explored Ziskov? Start at U Slovanske Lipy and walk up past the TV tower to U Sadu pub, then to Jiriho z Podebrad, with it's amazing church. You are guaranteed to find some interesting boozers on the way. The area looks a bit scruffy but is much safer than anywhere in the UK. Try here for some ideas:

We've been to Zly Casy and U Sadu before when we've been in Vysehrad and Zizkov , but not the others. Thinking about walking out to Vitkov Memorial if we have decent weather, so a visit to U Slovanske Lipy would be ideal.
    Thanks.

Just back from Prague, didn't manage to fit Beergeek into my hectic schedule, however, U Tri Ruzi and U Slovanske Lipy more than made up for not getting to Beergeek. Happy days.

Thanks for all the info on here. I'll be visiting in Aug and have Zly Casy, Beer Geek, U Slovanske Lipy, Pivni Mapa and Kulovy Blesk all on my itinerary. Can't wait to sample some Matuska, Clock, Falkon, Kocour, Permon etc. local brews. May visit one traditional tank pub as long as I can sidestep any accordion players and over zealous waiters.
