I will be visiting Prague next week and was hoping for some suggestions. I have visited Prague before, although it has been about 10 years, so I am familiar with the usual standbys (U Medvidku, U Fleku, U Zlateho Tygra). I have searched the forum and the "places" section, but neither seem very up to date. I also have done some research and found sites like praguebeergarden, but the amount of information is a bit overwhelming. Given that my time will be short, and that my wife will only go for so much pub crawling amid the general sightseeing, I was hoping for a top 5-10 list of: (1) good places to drink beer, (2) good places to have a meal and drink good beer, and (3) Czech brewers whose beers I should look for (not the usual big names). I guess I am more interested in small and micro breweries that are doing Czech style beers than I am in finding Czech interpretations of pumpkin ales, although I certainly am willing to explore top quality options in most styles. Points also given for more traditional Czech ambiance, although preferably minus some of the smoke We will be staying in the Vinohrady area if that helps, but I am sure will be seeing the sights all over town. Lastly, if anyone in Prague wants to grab a beer late next week or over the following weekend (15th-18th), shoot me a pm. Cheers.
All the beer and food in Prague taste the same to me...amazing and it's cheap. There is a little brewery that serves some great food really close to "new town" square. It's called novomentsky pivor I enjoyed the food, beer, and atmosphere. Also most places in Czech do not include service in the tab, so a tip is kinda expected unlike the rest of Europe.
Go onto the blog of pivni filosof and if you can, download a copy of his prague pub guide, itll tell you all yo need to know. In the meantime ill think of my favourite places and come back to you in a bit
