Thanks! Another generous BA gave me a tip, and I was able to grab a bottle. Excited to try it tonight.

You know, I thought more people would have known this.

I would have used the word "subtle" and thought the beer was pretty great, but it was a bit of a letdown from nose to taste right at first.

This. I really enjoyed this beer, but their overall pricing is just way too high. (cue eye-rolls) I'll try whatever I don't have to fight for, but I can't imagine buying a second. As someone mentioned in the prairie prices in TX thread, if their pricing can be supported forever by the tickers, then go for it, I guess, but I can't imagine there are that many people buying multiples (besides the chorus of fanboys on this site).

Wait so people think it's actually supposed to taste like apples? Do your Bba beers taste like corn?

I hope these aren't people who submit reviews.

DUDE, it says "Apple Brandy" right on the label.

Ergo, it should taste like a combination of apples and brandy.

Uhhh.... No? You expect BBA beers to have a bourbon component. Just like I assume you expect Apple Brandy Barrel Aged beers to have an Apple Brandy component

Apple brandy tastes as much like apples as cognac tastes like grapes, and the barrel would be presumably less discernible.

Plus, PAA has never been really heavy handed with the BA beers. Nuance.

I got a pretty pronounced caramelized apple and toffee flavor. Thought it was excellent.

So some of you kids DO think it's supposed to taste like apples. Hilarious. It's Apple brandy barrels, not apples and brandy.

Which "kid"? I know what Calvados/Apple Brandy tastes like, and have had several apple brandy barrel aged beers. In part, one can taste apples.

Many stouts/porters have a roasted coffee flavor, which use no coffee at all. Many IPA's taste like grapefruit, that use no fruit at all. Many bourbon barrel aged stouts can taste like vanilla in part, but no vanilla was used in the barrel or beer...I guess it is impossible to taste apples at all when a beer was aged an a barrel that had once held distilled apple cider

Just cause of this thread I might open a JW Lees Harvest Ale (Calvados Cask) which really does have a fruity component of apple and pears, among other things. Carry on

Edit: Of coarse everyone has different tastes, and perceives flavors differently.

Had this one fresh thanks to @kcbaby and I agree with your assessment. Given the base beer style it had a huge green apple flavor.

I definitely tasted apple to some degree, just like you'd hope apple brandy would have at least a little to do with apples. I wasn't expecting it to taste like apple juice stout and it lived up to expectations.

Agreed, it is not like biting into a granny smith, or drinking apple cider with stout. It is just one component of the overall beer. JW Lees, and other similar beers will show more of an apple skin character cause the base beer is so different.

glad I'm not the only one... I got a similar flavor experience... it definitely got more pronounced as the beer warmed. I enjoyed it very much - despite the price point.
