I think that with some of these flavors, it can get a little subjective according to each individual palatte. Some people are talking about over-pronounced coffee flavor and some say they wanted more chili pepper. I personally think Bomb! is just about perfect the way it is. If I were to change one thing, I would ask for just a little bit more sweetness.... But that's what we have Birthday Bomb! for! ^_^

The first time I had Bomb my brother had traded for it and we shared a bottle. I was sort of disappointed and I remember thinking too much coffee. That was a couple years ago. Just got distro here in Mn. and wasn't gonna bother when I saw the $8 a bottle price. Threw one in my cart one day thinking why not. Wow was it good. Not sure what the difference was, either way at the price, it would just be a treat now and again.

Bomb! can be a pretty polarizing beer. I for one think it is extremely over rated, more so because while I get a little of the coffee, I get 0 of the cocoa nibs and vanilla beans, and the chili peppers are very hit or miss.

More to the OP's original question...there really isn't a lot of comparison when looking at Bomb! vs other coffee flavored beer. If you are picking up a lot of the coffee, I say good for you, because I do not get very much at all. But then again, some people pickup on coffee easier than others.

I'd try it once if I could ever find it, but regardless of how good or bad it was, the price tag makes it a one-timer for me.

That said, I tend to like coffee-forward stuff..

Try aging it a bit. The coffee fades or transforms to chocolate after a few months. Or at least that's what I've experienced.

The Coffee fades pretty quickly from what I have seen also.

I often find that most beers with coffee do not have enough coffee flavor.

    Let it warm up first.

The coffee is more dominant when the beer is colder. As it warms up, the coffee is not as strong and the other flavors push through.

Just had my first bottle of this.

Even as the beer warms, the coffee is strong, but not overpowering. I get just as much chocolate and vanilla. It's beautifully balanced.

I didn't mind the coffee in Bomb, I definitely preferred BA Bomb over it as that knocked down the coffee flavor some more, but I didn't find the coffee content in Bomb too overpowering, but I wouldn't go back for another. I noticed the chili in Bomb but not BA Bomb. I liked Bomb much better than KBS though. Birthday Bomb is a nice alternative if you don't like coffee, whatever they did with it seemed smoother and mellowed out the coffee harshness.

Literally tried it for the frist time this week. It was middle road. I couldnt taste much coffee, but the spice was nice and mild. I feel it was worth the $10, but i wouldnt get it again.
