It was closer to $6.50 down here in FL.

For reference, Pirate Bomb (Rum BA) was $10 down here. Bomb is good, but $6 is expensive enough for it...sucks you guys are getting gauged by someone.

I agree with this, but I don't think the two are as comparable as they may at first seem. Yes, both use peppers. But Bomb uses anchos and isn't spicy at all, whereas Cake uses habaneros and is quite spicy (particularly when on the fresh side). There's also more than a full 2% abv difference between them.

But yeah, all Westbrook beers are great value for the money IMO.

Wow just looked this one up and at 14% I might drop the cash for at least one go at it. Hopefully Sams Bottle Shop still has some, well if they even got any.

Just wanted to say I just got a 32oz growler for $16 from Ridgewood in Raleigh. Even better is they are cool enough to not make you purchase one of their store branded growlers.

I grabbed one today, never had a fresh one, I want a fresh Chili beer. I'd buy one once a Blue moon if its a stable supply.

Well I'm having a fresh one now, it's good but not $10 good, not even close. This is dying for the need of a bit of heat, a bit of spice, but it's flat chili. If this was $5 fine, but it's not.

Just got one for $8.99 at Total Wine yesterday. Consolation prize for not getting Café Americano.

This thread is reminding me of how weird it is that we perceive a difference in value between 12oz vs bomber.

Nobody really seems to blink at a 750ml (25oz.) BA Narwhal being $20 (that's the lowest price, usually it's a few dollars more), but if it came in 12oz. bottles at $9.50 per (same price per ounce), people would think it was way too expensive.

Personally I would say that Bomb! is on par with (or better than) BA Narwhal in terms of quality, and it's more convenient to have two 12oz bottles than one bomber.

I'm usually on board with the "pay attention to what you pay for bombers people!" argument, but I think there are 2 main problems with your argument in this case:
    1. BA Narwhal is Barrel Aged, so most understand that it costs a little more.
    2. Bomb is ~$6 in many of their markets.

I don't think either of those two points are relevant to my point. It's of no concern to me whether or not something is barrel aged. My only concern is quality. Sometimes barrel aging increases the quality, but the fact that something is barrel aged, to me, has no bearing on whether or not it is actually good.

As for the second point, I'm clearly referring to the price of Bomb! in our particular market. You can feel free to substitute any other higher priced beer in to the example and it would still hold true. Some people say KBS is overpriced at $7 or $8 per bottle, but nobody would be saying that if you could get a bomber of it for $15.

Not relevant? It sure seemed like your points above were related to price, and barrel aging effects price - hence why I don't think your comparison to an annual BA stout release was really comparable.
Regardless of quality, people are going to complain even if they think it is worth $10 when many other markets are paying $6. That's all I'm saying. I said nothing of the like about whether Bomb is $10 in quality or subjective taste opinion.

You're addressing points that I'm not making or trying to make.

My only point is that most people are, for whatever reason, okay with paying more for bombers than for singles. There is more perceived value with a bomber than a single. Which is just odd to me as I think there are more benefits to having 12 oz bottles. Easier to share. Easier to consume and just have one. Easier to be able to drink one and age the other.

And you don't just see this price disparity with big stouts. Looking at the prices online now, a 22oz bottle of Sculpin is $10 at Total Wine. A 6-pk is $15. That's $0.45/ounce vs $0.20/ounce. More than double the cost! Yet people buy the 22oz. The craziest part of all is that I would imagine the 22oz. size is cheaper to produce on a per ounce basis.

Why are we dissecting the price per ounce of a beer? It's simple, if it's cost too much, don't buy it.

I wouldn't have a pricing problem if the beer was just better, it's a flat chili one dimensional beer, Mexican Cake destroys it. I realize they're different peppers, but Bomb was disappointing.

Maybe because we're on a message board about beer.

I prefer Mexican Cake as well, I can't wait to get my hands on a few bottles this year.
