I have a business trip to Dallas next week and was curious whether I will likely find Cherry Funk in stores. When I in town I usually hit Central Market on Lovers Lane and the Total Wine nearby to see what's available. (As an aside, I can't figure out why nobody appears to have opened a specialty beer store within a 15 min drive of downtown - am I missing something?)

Craft & Growler still had a bunch as of Sunday, that and WBC Bottle Shop are the closest places downtown.

Craft & Growler and WBC both sell bottles, but I'm guessing property values, zoning, and competition from all the nearby big box stores (WF Park Ln, Specs, Total Wine are all within 15 min) that have excellent selection and usually knowledgeable staff might scare away most people from opening a bottle shop downtown.

Note a big fan of the style in general, but i REALLY enjoyed this. Very balanced, very enjoyable.

A speciality beer store does exist within 15 minutes of Downtown Dallas... North Oak Cliff Beer and Wine, and when I was there Friday night they still had a decent amount of Cherry Funk still.

Had a chance to drink one of these Saturday night. It was pretty good but was very much like a Berliner to me and even if it does get more sour I'd probably still pass on another bottle since it was $11 at HEB. Cherry presence wasn't there for me until it warmed. My buddy mentioned a metallic taste but I didn't pick up on that.

Had it last night from bottle I picked up at JK last weekend. Pretty good! Not on level w [best that] Cantillon or Drie Fonteien put out, but better than a lot of Belgian cherry sours I've had.

After the initial negative reviews in this thread, I almost didn't pay the price to pick one of these up at Spec's yesterday. (I'd tell you which Spec's, but I took the last bottle). This is my favorite domestic sour I've had this year, topping others from Prairie, JK, and Jolly Pumpkin. Sour, but not too sour, and the cherries were subtle. Being overpowered by cherries was my biggest worry.

Overall, my fav sours are dominated by Flanders reds from Belgium, but I was very impressed by Cherry Funk - I enjoyed this more than any other Prairie offering to date, including the aged stouts.
