I can't believe there hasn't been a Thea's about this yet, at least none I found through searching. I love this neer and have bought about a case of it. A bit pricey, sure, at $4 a pop but I think this gives a lot of juicy NE style IPAa that are hard to find a run for their money. Like a slightly funky version of Lunch to my taste.
My daughter landed tonite from Tulsa and had 3 of these in her suitcase, kept one for herself. Will be having one over the weekend.
I haven't had Heady Topper, or many east coast IPAs, but i feel like more and more of the IPAs that I'm opening up show characteristics of a murky fruit bomb. If this is going to be the new norm, I am all for it because Phantasmagoria is killer. I drove across state lines to try it, and will gladly do it again to get more!
I had it on draft last night after having a pour of Grimm Tesseract. I thought Tesseract was much, much better and, with all due respect, I certainly wouldn't put Phantasmagoria anywhere near the same ballpark as the NE style IPA's that are up there on my list. Anyway... perhaps it was that I had the Tesseract first but I couldn't get over the onion presence which lingered on after a sip of Phantasmagoria.
Had my first one last night. Very good but shouldn't be mentioned in the same sentence as Heady Topper.
Had this one last night, and as others have said, is somewhat reminescent of some of the better NE IPAs - murky, juice bombs in both appearance and taste, though not on that level. Very different than HT imo, but still a very solid offering. As a hophead, I was pleasantly surprised. I'm not sure what these go for $$ wise since it was given to me, but knowing Prairie, it's probably too much meaning it'll just be a tick for me. Cheers!
I got a really unique and subtly sweet earthiness from it, I personally wouldn't call it onion, but maybe my tastebuds perceived it differently!
