I know you wanted to have one already made up. My favorite thing is creating my own. You can take really and dark and light beer to mix together. Be creative and have fun with it. Cheers.

Was going to mention Berkshire Brewing but noticed you were in Indiana. Don't think they distribute there.
Oh, wait, I guess I mentioned them after all...

IMO the point of a black and tan is to have the two styles separate in the glass, a la the 'traditional' Guinness and Bass combo.
Any decent stout / pale ale combo can be made to work - actually you probably want an amber or something lighter on the hops.
For a pre-mixed, I would just go with a porter in the first place.

Mississippi Mud, Mendocino Black Eye Ale, and for a while bass had a 6 pack called Black and Tan that had 3 bass pale and 3 bass stouts. But i agree with other posts that it is way more fun to make your own and experiment with different styles.

Correct me if Im wrong, but I believe this past winter Harpoon had a blend of Pale Ale/ Stout as one of their 100 barrel series

Saranac Black & Tan is the best one out there in my opinion. I know this is still produced but I have not seen it in a while.

I've never bought a pre-mixed black and tan so I can't vouch for any but when you mix them at home, aren't the beers supposed to be different densities or something so that they stay separate, which is why Guinness is often used, because a nitro beer like Guinness will float easily on other beers because it's light? Or will it work with any two beers that are poured carefully?

A pre-mixed B&T sounds like it would just come out of the bottle brown and murky, anyway.

i figured if you just bought a really dark beer and a lighter one and poured it half and half that it would be good.the one i actually had was Guinness and smithwicks but i figured it would be cheaper to just buy it already mixed in a 6 pack

I remember that from when they introduced the Trail Mix sixers. The funny thing was that they didn't even sell a porter or stout at the time; I guess they brewed it just for the Black and Tan.

Yes to creating your own. A "black" beer and a "tan" beer. One on top of the other. What's on top?

The black is on top. When I had a restaurant the distributor gave us spoons that would rest on the rim of the glass and allow the Guinness to pour gently on top of the amber beer.
