?

Split the bottle/cost or buy it solo?

  1. Just buy the damn beer!

Split it. You are both obviously balking at the total price not the price per ounce. Would you buy the bottle at half it's current price? If not you didn't want it anyways, if yes then cut the price and the risk of getting a bedshitter in half.

What beer is it? Maybe I can help you decide.

But, if it's just sitting on the shelf I'd split the price and consider buying more if it's super #1 awesome.

I'm pretty confident that the beer will be excellent, I don't need to look at the score to know that. I've really liked everything I've had from them, and they make one of my favorites at $8-9/750. Like I said in the OP, I have a hard time justifying anything near, or over, $1/oz for beer. But, as more and more beer prices inch towards that mark, I find myself facing these decisions more frequently. I started the thread mostly to get others thoughts on this.

Oh yeah, if it were $20, I'd have probably drank several by now. I have zero qualms about the quality of the beer, strictly the price.

That is a loaded question with a lot of other questions, mainly what the hell is it?
Ive paid $30 plus for several beers and some more than once, drank some myself and shared some.

Totally understand. Numbers on this site mean little to me. But a well written review (which, I'll admit, are quite rare) can talk me into a purchase or let me know to steer clear.

If you trust that you're going to get a good product, I would spring for it. It's hard to put a price on a good experience.
Another way I would look at it is that you're supporting a brewery that you enjoy, and that's a great way to show your appreciation to the brewers and brewery.

This one's easy. When your co-worker gets up to use the bathroom, drink 0.82 ounces from his glass. That way, you'll hit your $1/oz. target.

Is that a Calvin tactic, or a Hobbes tactic?

Only hint: it's from your state. I'm mostly trying to get a read on what other folks are deciding when faced with a similar situation.

So... You're in Bellingham. Six hours away... Portland is too close and Bend is too far. That means it's either from Block 15 in Corvalis or De Garde in Tillimook. Which is it?

Once you've drunk it with your buddy and you're basking in the brilliance of your decision you'll know the answer.

Let a couple of moths out of your wallet and just buy the damn beer.

It's not de Garde. One, the only two beers to see distro here are Bu Weisse and Petite Desay, both roughly $4.50. Has de Garde ever made a $30 beer? I don't think Block 15 sees any distro up here. I'm so fascinated. Commons?

I've never seen a De Garde over $15. Some of Block 15's bottle are in that price range (but are rarely worth it in my opinion). The Commons are usually around $12 - even for their special releases. Same for Upright. If it were Hair of the Dog (who hardly ever do 750 ml) - it be WAY more.

Now that I think of it... That size and price. It has to be Cascade.

I thought Cascade as well, but he said one of their beers is a favorite at $8-9 for a 750, and I can't remember seeing a Cascade beer that inexpensive. I was thinking maybe Logsdon, but they cap at about $20ish.

Maybe Upright? Not familiar with the prices of their more limited stuff.

I don't really worry about price per ounce for things I think I might like. That said, if I was in that position, I would split it. If you find you really like it, then grab another bottle.

Only you can answer what you are willing to spend on a beer with your financial status.

As far as i know, Upright's rare stuff does not gets distributed. With the exception of Fantasia, most of their non-production runs are very limited - usually number bottles of less than 200. And their seasonal beers are usually in the $12 ~ $15 range.
