Hi guys, did anyone have experience priming in a one gallon carboy or 64 oz growler ? I wonder if the standard plastic or tin top will stand the pressure.
I would avoid it. Some will say they do it, and get away with it. Others will tell you they know someone or tried it and it failed. I'd be the one to say I've heard it's not worth wasting your time. Do it properly.
I'll also recommend you avoid it. I've never had luck with it and most people say it's hit and miss. My metal tops never hold the pressure. I think the plastic nelopr...whatever are junk too. On a sidenote I have trouble holding carbonation even with growlers that I fill from the keg. Bottom line, do the extra work and put the beer into 12 or 22 oz bottles.
I've had both success and failure in carbing in a growler. I only attempted to do so with a flip-top growler (the ones with the ceramic top). The failure was more likely due to not providing enough time before chilling, opening and serving (1.5 weeks in this case). Flip-top growlers = yes Screw cap growlers = no
I've often wondered if there would be a market for a suitable spring-loaded flip top that is designed to vent excess pressure, allowing the beer to be 'perfectly' carbonated in a flip top growler. You would use slightly more sugar than recommended, then dial in the desired pressure on the cap. Surely, this is not rocket science?
