Any interest in discussing this brewery?

One of, if not, the best brewery in California for BA Stouts, Barley Wines, Munich Wines . But that's one man's opinion.

I’d try ‘em every chance I got when they appeared on the board at the Toronado. …as long as I had the rest of the afternoon cleared, because they don’t mess around!

Most of the different pours I had were stellar, with a few outstanding. Even when something didn’t quite land for me, I still could appreciate it.

Tried them since they started at shares and at festivals. Became a member this year. Which now allows me to try PP beers on a fresh palate, and open them and allow it to breathe ( as recommended ) and appreciate the improvement.

Honestly. Brad is hitting it out of the park IMO.

I had their Second Press at Toronado and i don't understand any of the hype or praise.
It was an awfulcswet ness of a "beer" . Way too thick, all sugary , made my teeth feel dry and i hardly tasted anything.
I Went there just to try that , looked forward to it and then regretted every second of leaving Oakland to try it

    Just one mans opinion.

Is there somewhere to try Private Press beers in the Santa Cruz area? I don't see a tasting room

You had a similar reaction to Monkish BALTS. It's a style of beer you don't like, and that's cool. I am having a harder time these days enjoying that level of thicc boi sweet stout, but I used to love them. I've never tried Private Press and couldn't even get on the waiting list for their club, so I don't know what I'm missing.

Everyone seems to love them, but I just think they're just okay? FWIW I don't care for SARA BA dark beers either (surprise surprise!)

Same - I've always wanted to try Private Press, but as of now, they elude me.

They are pouring at FWIBF, for those headed to Paso Robles at the end of the month.

Regarding you saying i don't like a beer "style" though, i love a ton of BA Imperial Stouts , but it does seem that anything aged longer than 2 years and blended is always a globby pile of sugary crap:confused:
I'll probably try a different beer if i saw it to solidify ny dislike , but i think i paid 13 dollars for 6oz like a loser at Toronado so....maybe.

it was Undrinkable and I'm not exaggerating.

They needa just stop with the whole "aged for 5838488393 months in a hype barrel and blended with another beer we aged for 5732237 months in a willet barrel and added to thia thread #474738 aged for 478383 months in a Pappy Van Winkle so we're charging you 80 dollars for 375ml ":rolling_eyes::rolling_eyes::rolling_eyes:

Well, there web site is early 1990s...LOL. Interesting in trying. Sure! However, since the membership is sold out and there seems to be few opportunities even in SF Bay Area, it will probably be unlikely.

I do agree the web site is not great. But keep in mind its very small brewery, that puts its attention on the beer and its customers.

Having had far more than one pour of Second Press at a festival, I'll stand by my earlier comments.

I'll also point out I am not a big fan of extra long boil stouts with lots of adjuncts that are cloyingly sweet. I don't find that to be the case for PP. In fact, the complexity of the beer, is what stands out to me.

Also the attention to, and full disclosure of, the barrels used in the process is far more impressive than I've seen from other breweries.

As for opportunities to buy/taste. They are a member only brewery, with no distribution. So other than events, you are only going to get to try them through a member.

I completely separate BA stouts from triple boil double mash thicc bois. I enjoy an alcoholic syrup from time to time, but the difference between Big Bad Baptist and Nillerzzzzz is night and day. I see them as wildly different beers even though they are both BA stouts.

So the website is broken, not sure why that's not been fixed, but here's a link to sign up for the waitlist - https://mailchi.mp/privatepressbrewing/waitlist

Taprooms that have Private Press on tap - Santa Cruz Mountain Brewing (around the corner from Humble Sea in Santa Cruz). Brad and Adair bought this brewery and it has at least one tap dedicated to PP beers.

Sante Adairius Portal in Santa Cruz frequently has a guest tap of PP, and sometimes bottles for in-house. Same for the Sante Oakland Arbor. Toronado almost always has PP on draft, and has bottles on the in-house list. Holy Water in SF as well.

Not entirely true. There was a public cellar sale a few months ago.

City Beer Store will often have Private Press on tap as well, and lately I've been seeing PP at Ale Arsenal in San Carlos. They had 2 on tap when I dropped by last week.

So there's a number of opportunities out there to try their stuff.

I remember taking a look at that when it was posted here; weren’t the bottles available somewhere in the $75 range? I might be mis-remembering, for some reason that number comes to mind though.

Just wondering if there are any members on this site.

    Opened One Way Glass tonight.

Cherry, Vanilla, Almond, Oak med body, mild heat.

Not bad for a beer with no adjuncts and 16.6% ABV
