Private profile pages

Several times in the last couple months, I peg a user whose reviews I like or whose posts entertain me so I follow them, and attempt to view their profile. Either to look at more reviews, or see older posts; whatever the case may be. It seems like more and more, I’m getting hit with the: “this user restricts who can view their page” message. I’m just asking: for those who restrict their pages, why and or what is the point of restricting who may view your page? Is there a benefit to this I’m not understanding? Cheers.
