I've had my kegerator for about a year and a half. So far I'm still using the original CO2 tank. I recently moved and brought the kegerator with me. To celebrate the move I got a keg of Sam Summer Ale. Before moving I made sure I closed the CO2 tank. After connecting everything back up I opened the the tank and the second I did so I heard a loud hiss. I tried adjusting the regulator but every time I would reopen the valve it would start hissing. Not sure if I need a new CO2 tank, if there is a leak in the tubing, or the diaphragm is damaged. Any help would be great!!
if you are hearing gas escape you can rule out an empty tank. be sure you didn't lose the washer. check the threaded end of the regulator. that is my first guess. checking for leaks is easy, just squirt some soapy water at the threads and everywhere else. look for bubbles. you can also run your hands over everything and listen for a change in sound. possibly a damaged regulator, in which case you will need to know if it is rebuild-able and if it is, can you do it. Cheers.
Thank you. I found where the CO2 is coming from it's just how do I fix/seal it. It's leaked where the pipe from the tank connects into the regulator.
Sounds like you lost your washer that goes in the nut before tightening regulator to the tank. Should be able to get a spare where you get your tank filled .
They cost a few cents. Many (most?) places will give you one at no charge. http://www.keystonehomebrew.com/shop/co2-tank-gaskets-fiber.html
45 cents a piece at Beverage Factory. I bought 10 of 'em and replace it everytime I have to re-fill the co2 bottle: http://www.beveragefactory.com/draftbeer/regulators/component/02C03-188.shtml There are re-usable ones too, same price. Looks like you can get them for 10 cents with Mike's Keystone homebrew link. I would of went to a local homebrew store to get some because I couldn't have waited any longer to drink some Summer Ale!! That's what I have on tap.
