Hi all I have two home brew kegs one filled with an ipa and one with a amber ale, I carbonated them for 4 days under 30psi which is what I was told to do and when they were ready to drink I bled the kegs and have them sitting at 12 psi, when I pour one of them it comes out fast and mainly foam even though the line is full of non foamy beer, the other one just dribbles out of the tap! Any ideas what my problem is?
This post will be sent over to the draft nerds in Home Bar. Check out any number of the dozens and dozens of threads about draft beer balance. Basically your problem is typical and is caused by Improper or uneven temperature. Improper system restriction. Improper pressure. Those three items, and only those three items, are what we get to fix. Sometimes all three. What is the beer temperature, exactly? How long and what type beer line? We have really no idea how carbonated your beer is because fast carbonating at 30 psi, while useful if done by an experienced brewer, is not a very good idea until you have an idea where the system sits. Cheers.
Not sure on temp but the beer is nice a cold when it comes out and the taps are cold too! The lines are about one metre and is 5mm.
These items need to be fairly exact. Without seeing the system myself I am 99% sure "nice and cold" is not cold enough. Beer must be very near 38 F (3.3 C). Lines must be 3/16" ID (5 mm) Line length needs to be long enough, 6 feet (1.8 m) Get that dialed in or your going to be pouring foam. Also, read up on previous threads as every question has been answered multiple times. Good luck.
Okay thanks for the info, well nice and cold has proven too cold twice now as two different settings on my fridge and two time my beer has frozen
For clarification, what temperature was the beer at while under 30 psi? Here is a useful chart: https://www.kegerators.com/carbonation-table/ 30 psi @ 62 - 65F should be fine, but at a lower temperature than that you're getting into foamy beer. Of course over-carbonated might explain one, but not the other.
