Hey, what's the earliest in the day you can have a beer without being classified as "Having a problem"? It wasn't until I got into "Craft beer" that I would ever even consider having a beer before say....Noon??? Now this stuff sounds good even for Breakfast! Maybe I do have a problem... but I LOVE IT!

I know man! I used to hear about tail gate parties here in Michigan, where they would start tailgating at like 8-9pm BBQing and having beer at like 25-30 degrees... I used to think YOU'RE NUTS!!! I still would if I was drinking only Coors Light... Ha ha!

Usually they say that if you have to ask about there being a problem (or are even worried about it) that is often an indicator of a problem.

That said this seems to be a relatively innocent question, so I'll just second Todd and say that it doesn't really matter when you drink. It's really all about how much/often you drink and what you do while drinking that ultimately points to a problem or not...

I would say rate of consumption and volume of consumption are bigger factors than time of day.

If I have a bunch of shit to do, I'm not cracking a beer until it's all done. Every once in a while though I'll have an oatmeal stout with my pancakes and bacon and sit around in sweatpants playing videogames all day.

I work pretty early in the morning, and am usually ready for lunch and a beer by 10:30. So even on days off I tend to adhere to that schedule. I might sleep a lot later on days off.. Maybe 8-8:30, but I'm still drinking a beer by mid to late morning.
Drinking is a problem when it causes you to neglect things that are more important, so beers in the AM are fine if you don't have to go pick your kids up at school or something. Pick your kids up after killing a sixer of Bigfoot Before noon and you pretty much suck.

I'll go further and say it's not about rate or volume of consumption, but how it affects your life. When your drinking starts affecting your work, relationships, responsibilities, etc. then you need to reevaluate. Yes rate and volume of consumption has a huge impact on this, but if, for example, I could drink a 12 pack each day and have nothing else about my life change I would not think there was an issue.

How did Dean Martin put it? "I feel bad for people who don't drink.... because when they wake up in the morning, thats as good as their gonna feel all day..."

The correct answer is 12 noon. I looked it up in Emily Post. It says that if you drink before 12 noon, then you are a no good stinking drunk.

I never wanted to drink right after I got up, if you do, you may have a problem. IF you got to have it, you may have a problem.
Time is not an issue with me, its lack of money.

in everyday life, I find lunch time is ok. On vacation (Holiday) hell I been known to hit the pub when they open. Still never had a beer or any other drink with my pancakes(eggs. etc) though.

As others have said, if it is starting to affect your daily life I would say take a step back and re-evaluate how much, and when you are drinking. If you want to, test yourself and don't have a beer at all for a week or so and see how you do.

It doesn't matter what time you drink. It's a problem when you drink a lot, and very often.
