I purchased a 4-pack of Red Brick's Smoked Vanilla Gorilla from a store in Tampa, and had it shipped to me recently.

I've opened two bottles from the four pack, so far, and both have had a harsh sour bite. The bottles are dated 8/29/12, so I assume that is the "drink by" date.

Has anyone else had any "off" flavors from this beer recently? I've had Smoked Vanilla Gorilla before and thought it was incredible, so I'm kind of bummed that these bottles have been really bad.

I can't bring myself to believe that it's just a case of temperature fluctuations during the shipping process, so I figured I'd ask the BA community.

Is this a definite? Any word from the brewery? It definitely seems infected, but I don't want to throw that word around lightly.

I don't know about any word from the brewery. If it was slightly tart like some darker beers could be, I would have hesitated but my bottle was overwhelmingly so. I have no doubt that it was infected.

I'm not saying you're wrong... My bottles have been pretty brutal.

Glad to know I'm not going crazy.

Yup, definitely an infection setting in on this one. :slight_frown:

I cracked open a bottle from the cellar the other night and it was exhibiting some sour notes. Wasn't completely gone and still drinkable...I finished the glass, but not nearly as good as when it was fresh (which was pretty awesome IMO). I've you've got 'em, drink 'em now cuz it's only gonna get worse...

Interesting, I've had probably six bottles of this and haven't had any issues at all. This is also the first I've heard of it, long after it came out. I certainly believe it to be true, but it must be a small percentage of the batch.

Yeah I think it's time has passed.

That beer is REALLY good. The BBQ joint that smoked their vanilla beans for them is killer good.

It just passed it's good days.

I had about 8 of these last winter and had no infection notes at all. I think this is a really good beer and am sad to hear that some is infected. Be sure to try the 16th Anniversary, if you can. Very easy drinking and tasty BA brew.

Have they done more than 1 batch. I have one bottle left of one from last october. Was trying to see what a year did to it.

    Cheers!

I just sent one out in a trade, I hope it is o.k. I opened one about a month ago and it was still good, I guess I will have to open the last bottle and find out. Thanks to the op for starting this thread.

I had a bottle back in November and there was no problem with it whatsoever. Good stuff.

I just opened my first one tonight and it definitely had sour flavors. Should it have any sour to it or is it infected?
