I don't think that's a NC thing. Total Wine over bought on FBS, and was selling 4 pks for $4.99, which is half of what I paid.

I've seen many a Stone bottle collecting dust at local places. The worst offender was a Oaked Arrogant Bastard dated best by 11/30/12. Needless to say I reported that one to Stone

In my area it seems that 3 Floyds - Pride and Joy doesn't move that fast which is silly because its a very good beer.

It doesn't move because it hits the retailer with too much age. The distributor should be shot.

I saw some Deviant Dales in a store this last week from March 2012. Gross!

How is that even possible with the Brevard brewery? Most OB that hits NJ is a week or two old, max. Pretty amazing.

Yep. We've got '08s on the shelf for $22.99 a piece and they've been there since '10. A couple guys bought a few early on but nothing since.

If they gave it away, they'd be liable.

The local version of this is Harpoon Leviathan. This year's one is IIPA, so it will be interesting if the same thing happens to it. But several stores I visited in the past two weeks have the previous editions still sitting on the shelves as well, some going back all the way to 2010. There are not a lot of those left and some of them are known to benefit from aging, but they should not be aged on the floor, in full light and often at 68F or higher year round. Never mind that they have not been dusted since they hit the floor either. The stupid thing is that I believe the current IIPA to be the best edition they've had. But if that bites the dust, there may not be another.

PS: Leviathan is half that price, so it's not a complete match.

I never go under wholesale that's just dumb. But I will drop a bit off, you'd be suprised how much a dollar or two off would do

Its amazing the old bottles you can find. The 3 year old pale ales really make me chuckle.

This makes me so sad! I have a Starr Hill tattoo and I have such a hard time getting it near Pittsburgh. Every few weeks the one shop can score some and I am lucky to get a bottle or 2.

I work at a very large and successful liquor store that at its core is a high-end wine and liquor retailer with a gas station-level beer shop attached. We sell most of our beer to hill people who bathe in Yuengling Premium. But because the owners are dirty rich (the store is basically their side project) and it was a cool thing to do at the time, they added on a sizable craft section. It's hard to stomach working there sometimes, because basically all craft aside from SNPA, Torpedo, and Dogfish 60 and 90 is dead weight. We honestly might sell one bomber/750 every other day. That might be a generous estimation.

I do my best to continually rotate new things into the fridge, because that's the only way I'll sell most craft sixers. Even the people who come in for craft mostly only look at the fridge. I found that I can move some things this way, but it's still very slow going and some things just refuse to sell; I've been at this store for more than a month now, and I have never witnessed anybody so much as looking at a sixer or bomber of Ballast Point.

Also, some of the dates in this thread are laughable. People acting like beers from early 2013 are really old? I've got Port Brewing on my shelves from early 2011.

I dunno about other states... but the Matilda/Sofie/Pepe Nero/Pere Jacques from our initial shipment of Goose Island late last year/early this year is still sitting around EVERYWHERE. They never move. I've seen the 750s as low as $5 with owners desperately trying to move it.

Scuttlebutt? You get Scuttlebutt? FWIW, it sit's on shelves around here too, and I'm an hour from the brewery. I do like their 777 Triple though.
