Sorry I haven't responded for a bit all. Between all my other INFINITE ranting posts, I have been extremely busy calming down, per the many suggestions.

This whole thing is starting to piss me off. Any time someone disagrees with something that someone else is doing they just jump in and start yelling "WAY TO BE AN ADVOCATE!!!" without ever considering whether their saying that makes any sense at all (it almost never does). If it weren't for the fact that there's basically nothing riding on it, it'd actually be sinister. Instead it's just annoying.

Don't complain about people being cheap if you can't pony up a better offer than the other guy.

You just made the OP's point, I think. When someone asks for something specific, they're not asking for an offer. If they ask for 2 KH, and I offer 2 KH, where has my offer failed? If they want offers, they should just ask for them, or we should agree to just go to an auction system, and may the best offer win.

(note: I dont trade on BA, and have no dog in this fight, but I do see the points being made by both sides)

I don't think it should matter though. It's my beer and i can trade it for whatever I want even if it's not exactly what I asked. Lots of times trades are opened ended but people dont say it. So if you want the beer bad enough then make the best offer. Its the only way you'll get it.

I dont disagree with you on being able to accept whatever trade you want, I just think people need to realize that the trade forum basically IS an auction forum now, and approach it as such or stay away. So much goes on behind the scenes that, if you're not into that, you should probably just stick with your trading regulars (which is what I do)

With so many more people it's become a competition. Back in the day you maybe only got a few offers and your ISO might even stay on the front page for a day or two. The offers weren't usually people offering extra either. It's like craigslist now.

Also the shutdown of Ebay has simply moved profiteers to the trading forums. So yeah, more buyers going after the same beers from sellers that are looking to trade up... bad combo...

People still trade on the ISO:FT forum? Odd. I thought it was just a penis measuring sub-forum now? "Looky what I'm packing!" seems to be the feel for the last 12 months.

Ain't nothing wrong with drinking all the local awesomeness your area has to offer.

OP is a-ok with me...he hooked me up last year with a bottle for the 21yr cellar for my newborn with no questions asked, looking for nothing in return. Aaron, you go ahead and rant your ass off brother

Threads like these just make me happy that I have developed fantastic trading partners over the last couple years.
No "hype," no "BS." Easy trades where everyone is happy and everything is reciprocated. Thank you again to:

IP trades are cool with me. Packing is a bitch.

I can agree that it's frustrating to offer exactly what's ISO only to receive a reply "Do you have any Persica?" and never hear back when I say no.

No one is required to prioritize responding to you above anything else they might want to do. They don't owe you an instantaneous response.

That said, I often will wait a little while before I start responding to trade BMs because: I might get an offer to do the trade in-person, which I'd prefer over a shipped trade; I might get a message from someone I've traded with in the past, which I'd prefer over an unknown person; I might find out that one of my tasting group buddies already has the bottle I'm looking for and is willing to open it up with me; I might find something questionable about the first respondent and want to take some time to vet them. I don't ever auction, but I also don't think I'm obligated to trade with the fastest reply under all circumstances (although, probably 90% of the time I do).

"Regular trade partners" is a bit different from "someone I've traded with in the past". And, I do generally agree with you about A, but it does happen that communication isn't always perfect or instantaneous. We're a tasting group, not a cabal .

Regardless, though, point still stands that no one is obligated to respond immediately the next time they are on the site.
