prove to me the duplicate thread, please

    There's been a couple times I've posted a thread that later got deleted because it was a "duplicate". But after searching the forums using every variation of my title I can think of, I just can't find another thread that's the same as mine.

    If my thread gets deleted because it really is a duplicate, I would like to have the original thread messaged to me somehow for proof because I'm having trouble believing it exists.

    To be blunt, we don't have the time. It would force mods to do the searching for you and create of a discussion over a simple moderation item (more time).

    I recommend expanding your search.

    But if I'm watching the thread and it gets deleted, I will already get a message stating the thread was deleted and stating the reason: duplicate topic. If a link or even just the name of the original thread could be mentioned in this message that I already get, then the experience would be annoying to me.

    No hard feelings if this doesn't change, it's just a suggestion to make the site more friendly to posters.

    But wouldn't the mods have to find the first thread anyway to determine that it is in fact a duplicate? Or do the mods just take the reporters word for it?

    We deal with a lot of content. Often times we know if a similar thread already exists or not without having to dig it up.
