Arriving in Providence tonight for the weekend, will be staying at the Renaissance. Any good bars or craft stores in walking distance? Anything "can't miss" I need to try that's locally available? Might have a little wandering around time saturday night if there are good suggestions not in the immediate vicinity. Thank you in advance for any tips

You are only a few minutes walk from Harry's Burger Bar on South Main Street.

Julian's and Grange on Broadway have good to great selections. Grange has GREAT vegetarian food.

Thanks! What kind of delicious brews can be found around these parts? Fresh ghandi bit I hope, as its been a year since I've had that delicious nectar

Julian's beer list. They had bottle of Cantillon not long ago.

Harry's only has 4 draft and 1 cask beer that changes just about weekly. They have about 50 different bottled beers. Their burgers were rated #1 in Providence and Providence was rated top burger place in the US per Travel and Leisure Magazine. If you go get the Pastrami or Mother of All Burgers (with bacon, cheese and fried onion strings).

I don't think you'll find G-bot anywhere. I used to see it on shelves, but it's been well over a year since that's happened. Sorry.

Places to go to in Providence:
    The Scurvy Dog
    The Avery
    Julian's
    Harry's
Doherty's (just over the Providence line in Pawtucket)

    Place to skip in Providence:
    Trinity
    Wickenden Pub
    The Apartment

Have fun. Keep in mind that tonight is another Waterfire night, so getting around can be a bit more complicated.

FYI, the Apartment closed months ago. It's now Succotash::

Good, that place was shit. Looking at the website for Succotash, I see that they are part of the same "restaurant group" that owns the English Cellar Ale House (which is also rubbish). What's interesting is when I looked up the Apartment a long while back it was owned by a restaurant group too and that group also owned the English Cellar Ale House, but the restaurant group had a different name. Seems like a big 'ol re-branding. In short, I don't expect much out of Succotash.

It's a bit of a hike from the Renaissance but I like Farmstead up on Wayland Square...especially for the sophisticated James Bond types.

I loved Farmstead great food and they had a few really good draft lines to pair with my wild mushroom appetizer and organic ring neck pheasant entree.

Might be coming from CT tonight for the Waterfire myself and dinner at Farmstead.

Drank a Leaning Chimney smoked porter. Delicious!

What is Waterfire? My event calendar for today mentions it, but doesn't explain what it is

Just go to it. They have all these torches sticking out of the river and they light them on fire. Sorry that sounds like a dumb explanation, but it's fun to witness.

From the Renaissance, you won't be able to miss/avoid it....it'll be nice on this perfect autumn day - especially if you have a date. It's where teenagers get to second base for the first time.

That should be on a billboard visible from I-95.

By the way, I see you have enjoyed Farmstead. Have you checked out New Rivers? I don't mean to derail the thread, but I just want to put it out there and New Rivers food is the best food I have ever eaten, anywhere. Absolutely amazing. Their home made charcuterie is insane.

By the way, OP, how'd you make out last night?

Thanks for the suggestions folks! We went to XO last night for dinner, and then I took my girlfriend and her sister on a walk to Julian's through downtown and got to stop and look at water fire. Sadly Julian's didn't have the St Lamvinus listed on their website but they did have Kriek and Classic.

Damn I should hoped over to Juliana myself for some Cantillon. I'll have to check out New Rovers next time I roll into town. The BA community almost always is spot on with restaurant recommendations.
