I’m getting a Stella cider keg for my kegerator tomorrow, and I usually have miller lite in it, so looking for proper psi setting I should set it to for the Stella cider. And also if there is a proper tubing length I should have for it as well. Any advice or input will help, thanks.
Stella is an ABI product and I want to say that all ABI is carbonated at 2.5 vols, but don't quote me on that. Ask your beer seller, who will ask their beer distributor. AB staff are very knowledgeable about their product and they should be able to get you the info. If anyone tells you the correct dispense pressure ignore their info because that is system dependent and they don't know the specifics of your system. Just nod your head and realize you are not talking to the right guy. So 2.5 vols at 38 degrees (which is where your system should be) is 11 psi. On a kegerator that means set your regulator to 11 psi. Line length between 5 and 7 feet is acceptable, there is no perfect answer other than 6 feet will get you a professional pour, while 7 feet will slow it down just a bit and 5 feet will be a bit aggressive. But don't sweat that too much, the same tube you have now for your Miller, if you like the pour and the tube is clean, leave it. Finally, cider does not hold head for very long and you can over carb the product quite a bit if you like. The producer doesn't want that to happen, they want the product to slot into an existing beer account with next to no thought, and they want the cider to be a bit sweet for mass market US appeal. But increasing the pressure to say, 13 psi, will increase the sharpness of the drink, decrease the perceived sweetness a bit and make the cider a lot more lively. Cheers
