Since this seems to be a topic that people love discussing, I made a special thread for it. Hoping to keep discussion about the differences or lack of here, instead of clogging up other threads with off topic posts.
If we're going to start this, can we start a topic for Saga to keep all the stupid Saga posts in one place too? Uh-oh. Third post & I'm already off-topic. I should change my user name to OFFTOPIC. This serious beer business thing, I just can't get used to it.
At the risk of beating a dead horse, I'll bite. I've posted this before, but the last time I was at TG, it was pretty quiet and I started talking about this. I asked if I could open a bottle that I just bought and try it next to the tap version. They offered up a couple bottles instead and even poured them blind to a few people sitting at the bar. More than half agreed that the FL sue was better. I was one of them. That said, two more points: 1) Obviously, there is still batch variation going on here. 2) Don't listen to people in online forums, especially beer geeks. Taste beer for yourself (blind if possible)
Good luck. The Sága posts aren't a topic; just a bunch of one-liners that for some reason some people think are funny. I still don't get the joke, whatever it is.
Is this the new home of the FL Sue Sucks jerk circle? Will the TG "Appreciation" thread ever recover?
Thought Florida sue was cans only? Having said that there have been several batches of FL Sue that tasted damn fine to me
Show me where there exists a Sága discussion topic that meets your description of "stupid Saga posts" that is more than supposed-to-be-funny one-liners injected into other discussions ...
Until tonight, I had not purchased FL Sue since one of the first batches. It has come a long way, that is for sure and it is a delicious beer, overall. They still have some work to do in order to call them the same beer.
Decorah Sue is definitely better. More aroma and has been hazier/jucier as of late. Florida Sue is still the best pale I can get at a liquor store unless fresh Todd is in stock. It's a little dry, but still has that killer unmistakeable Citra flavor. So basically, IMO, it's not the same thing but it's still a really good beer that's worth the price point and until something better comes along, I'll keep drinking it.
Agree with many posts. Decorah Sue and Sue from 1.5 years ago > FL Sue. Like @Bobandy said its (FL) is the best PA i can buy at this time.
So you're wondering if ISU (sorry can't put Iowa there) is going to play Miami for the NCAA championship? I'll definitely go ISU. My bracket went to hell, so I like it that someone took a shot in the dark. Seriously, I understand trying to get the 13,000 posts about this subject off the other TG threads but if people haven't figured out which is better by now, they either never will or they just have "different" taste buds like the 80% of Americans that are still macro beer drinkers. I think the best new thread should actually be "Has Florida Sue improved?"
I keep picking up fresh cans of Sue and it keeps getting better and better! Next time The Nova has it on tap (from IA-obviously), I'm going to perform a side-by-side with the cans from FL. The gap is definitely closing.
I know this isn't Sue, but had some GNugg on tap at Fongs in Ankeny, and it was incredible. Super underrated beer in my opinion. Fantastic on tap, but yet to have a Florida brewed bottle/can that I love.
FL Sue is my go-to beer at this point. I like Todd and Abrasive better overall but price per beer (and availability) puts FL Sue at the top. Editing to add I have never tried Decorah Sue
So are all of the cans in Minnesota FL Sue? I knew they made some down there, but assumed distribution to MN would have been from Decorah. I thoroughly enjoyed my 3/9 cans. Apparently I haven't had Decorah Sue yet either. Definitely one of my new go-to beers.
Interesting. Thanks for the info. Now the 2 hour drive I contemplating making down to the brewery has become all the more enticing.
