Pardon if there is a past thread but I thought it would be nice to have one to help keep us OC folks in the loop about PTY tappings and events in OC. Post all info here. Cheers!

Agreed. I think Beachwood has started their raffle. Last year I went to Haven and it was an enjoyable experience, I'd like to know more about their event this year.

Places I know about are Beachwood (raffle), Haven, Provisions, and Hollingshead that all get a keg.

To me its always fun to get a pour, but waiting more than maybe 15 min for a pour of it is nonsense. I'd rather have Blind Pig.

Tustin Brewing Company also offers it and typically has a ticketing system.

Any day now, thefullpint.com should be publishing its list of PtY tappings and events, including OC.

Few years ago I hit Tustin Brewing and it was a fairly painless process ... that said, Younger is a one and done experience for me ... plenty of other high quality TIPA options available.

I'm not a fan of blog posts like this. They essentially boil down to "I get PtY every year and it's not a big deal so don't wait in line to try it." If you're enabled to drink it at your leisure, you're not experiencing the same emotional response of everyone who gets excited about it and makes an extra effort to seek it out.

Now overall I get it and I agree. Extremely limited release beers are not the best in the world, they're just exclusive and so people freak out about them. They're new and shiny. But don't tell me not to experience them for myself. Let me decide that it wasn't worth the hype. While at one end of the spectrum you have beer bros ticking everything, at the other end you have AB-InBev's business model - why try something new or exciting when you can have this beer that you know you already like and is readily available. Trying new things is fun and exciting and part of the whole craft beer experience. If some people want to wait in a line to try this year's PtY, more power to them, but don't assume everyone is doing so because they think it's the best hoppy beer in the world.

All of that said, if PtY gets tapped near me, I'll try it, but I'm not driving an hour to wait in a 3 hour line. Personally, that's not worth it to me. But anyone who wants to do that totally should.

I'll give up one of my best kept secrets: If you want a pretty good shot at PtY (I have had it 4 years in a row), Selma's in Rancho Santa Margarita gets it every year in a small quantity, and usually serve it a couple weeks after everyone else. They always sell wristbands on the Monday morning that they will be serving it on later that day; that usually being the last Monday in February or the first Monday in March. Comes with a T-shirt or glass (usually), and have it as well as PtE, Blind Pig, and a couple others. Full disclosure, last year was the busiest I've seen it, so I would recommend getting there early for ticket sales. I believe wristbands go to the first 100 people, who are allowed to return after 4 pm at their leisure, guaranteed a pour.

    Cheers, and happy hunting!

Thread lift and local PtY updates:

Selma's RSM sells tickets on Sunday, Feb. 26th at 11:00 am. Tasting won't be until Tuesday the 28th at 4:30 pm (a little different than previous years)

Tustin Brewing Company selling tickets at 11:00 and tapping at 3:00 pm on Wednesday, Feb. 22nd.

    That's all I've got. Cheers!

It's still a fun yearly tradition, as most places who get it also have their other goods. I.E. Blind Pig, Temptation, Perdition. Plus it's always nice to pay respect to beers that brought us to where we are today. Granted, there are better TIPA's out there (especially locally), but to each their own. Cheers!

My secret is I'll be at pizza port Tuesday and Wednesday for lunch around 11:30am. Every year they tap it one of those day. I usually get two pours and wait a total of 5 minutes. If If I am wrong then I just eat some good pizza and drink the plenty of other good beer available.

    working remotely has some benefits.

There's a lot of newbies that haven't tried the younger yet. I think everybody needs to try it. So why not. I'm over it. Who knows maybe in a couple of years I will drink it again. Or not. In the meantime I will go have a couple of pours of Hops of Fury at BTs for lunch.
