Update from the RR Facebook page:

Santa Rosa forecast for Thursday through Sunday: 100% chance of rain, naturally! If you are headed our way, come prepared for wet weather. We have about a dozen easy-ups to provide some shelter. Out of courtesy for everyone waiting to get in and to ensure responsible alcohol consumption, we will be limiting our guests visit to a maximum of 3 hours.
Although, I had a dream last night that no one showed up! If that's the case, then we will reassess! Please visit our website for the whole scoop and hotel specials in the area. Don't forget Alaska Airlines flies right into Santa Rosa

went last year on the last tuesday of the release, got in line between 7:30-8:00am and was maybe 10th in line; by 9:30-10:00am it was wrapped around the corner; was definitely not as bad as the first week as people had said; am doing the same thing this year

Your confusion is understandable, because you're trying to compare this with other normal/rational behavior. Younger release week doesn't fit that mold.

First, keep in mind that many folks attending this have waited 5, 6, 7 or 8 hours to get inside. The mindset seems to be, if I've waited this long, I sure as hell am going to make the most of the experience once I get in. Also, keep in mind that many folks go with a relatively large group of friends. The times I've gone, I've typically stood or sat at the bar by myself. I might talk to the bartender a bit (whenever they have a free moment), or my neighbors at the bar, but otherwise, I just sip my beers, eat some food, and get out. So like you suggested, my visits typically lasted no more than an hour and a half. However, it's not the least bit unusual for a group of friends to get in, hang out, get whatever they feel their younger allotment is, order some sours, maybe get a glass or two of elder and/or row/hill, order several rounds of appetizers, maybe get a couple of pizzas, and just make a day of it. Trust me on this... that can eat up considerably more than 3 hours.

Also, just so there's no confusion... the brewpub sells pints of elder, but younger is only served in a 10 ounce snifter.

Frankly, the scenario I described above is not my idea of a good time (the waiting in line for 5, 6, 7 or 8 hours to drink 3 glasses of youger part). It's been several years since I've enjoyed younger at the brewpub, as I feel as if I have better things to do with my time than standing in line that long. Obviously, others feel differently (in fact, a lot of others), and I keep on hearing over and over about how much fun it was standing in line for hours, and meeting all kinds of cool, fun people. I'll just have to take their word for it...

    Have fun, and good luck.

They should seriously just have younger rotating through their lineup every few months like boneyard does with Notorious.

Arrive 4 hours early on Tuesday or Wednesday. You should get in...beware though each year it gets worse. Buy a camping chair and dress for rain.

Biggest warning is to pay attention to the parking meter...thus recommend the parking lot across the street behind RR (if you drive). Starbucks and Pete's open early and are across the street. Go to Pete's.

5:15 and the line is around the corner. Admittedly the line is not dense, people are spread out.

I'll be in Santa Rosa on Sunday, unfortunately to visit an ill family member. I'd like to swing by RR to pick up some bottles to go. Are they letting folks into the shop without having to wait in line? I'm fine not trying PtY, I just want to stock up on their bottled beers.

What do i not get. Other than certain beers distributors place orders for that they need to keep the lights on (pliny), most of their beer is draft only at the pub which means ample experimentation. I understand hop contacts and aging the beer in tanks is time consuming, but russian river can expand, they choose not to. They could make tons more beer, they choose not to.

Flying into SF early Sunday morning. Anyone have an idea if Toronado will have Younger on tap then?

ah the time old "they choose not to" line. they bought out all of their investors last year and are in a great deal of debt from that. but they own their business for the first time! they are privately owned and cant afford to expand, and with their business model, don't have interest to do so. some breweries like stone follow the model of still not being able to make enough, we will make more! and some, like RR, just dont have interest in expanding in to a larger brewery simply because they are popular. they are just interested in making good beer!

Maybe you're right and they aren't really making money but that's like believing the Oakland a's don't have any money so that's why they can't sign guys. If you've ever been to the pub, it's packed to the gills every single day. I'd say they are making some good money.

But that's just purely speculation. It's just hard to imagine those guys not making good money.

Just stopped by for coffee to see the "show." The line currently wraps around the corner onto D street, and then wraps around to the right on 5th (back behind the RR parking lot area). I'd guess there's roughly 200 people in line, which probably means a good 5 or 6 hour wait to get in at this point.

On a positive note, the weather this morning is absolutely gorgeous. Perfect weather for standing around for 5 or 6 hours, twiddling your thumbs.

What do you think a good time would be to get in line to get in at opening tomorrow morning (Sunday)? Never gone on a weekend.

i was lucky enough to have natalie speak to my group a few months ago and i heard it first hand  its also been mentioned in some articles. they are insanely busy and putting all of that money right back in to their business (particularly to their employees with things like health care), like getting a new brewhouse. but that brewhouse is the same size if that further confirms them not wanting to expand
