Probably 4:00 or 5:00 in the morning.

I think it's reached the point that the day of the week is irrelevant now. There's always a line, and it's pretty much guaranteed that there will be a huge line of folks outside the door at opening bell. What you see this morning, is pretty much what I would expect to see tomorrow. Maybe a few less folks, but I would not expect the wait time to be significantly shorter.

    Good luck.

Are they doing a separate line for bottle sales or does one have to suffer through the now 4+ hour line?

Used to be you could come by the back door if you just wanted to pick up bottles, but I believe they've discontinued that. You might want to call to be sure, but I'm afraid you'll probably need to get in line with everyone else, even if you just want to get some bottles to go.

They have had a retail shop in the small side room for a couple of months.

Ahhhh.... that's very good to know. I haven't been there in some time (probably not since September), and wasn't aware of that. That's a great idea on their part.

My opinion on this is they don't want to expand because then it would no longer be exclusive and honestly, ratings would be likely to drop a little, all just because the reviewers would be able to look at it as a commonly seen beer versus "OMG if you see an Elder on the street grab it because everyone else wants it"...but if there were always 20 in stock at the local grocery store, people would be like "meh, its good, but I don't want to drink the same thing all of the time." Having this beer be common nationwide would definitely kill any and all buzz about it.

Also, as long as they are maximizing their profits from the pub (if it is packed everyday) they are controlling their costs and their product.

I definitely do agree that they aren't as well of as people think.

They have expanded already! They have a second off site brewery. They do make money, but as stated earlier they just bought out all other investors.

Aside from that, it's actually really shrewd to not follow the herd in leveraging up and expanding as fast as you possibly can. When the current boom cycle peaks and starts to recede (whether or not you want to call it a bubble, the current pace of expansion is unsustainable), a brewery that has capacity to take on debt can end up winning the long game by surviving the initial wave of contraction through revenue stability - which RR should have no trouble with since their supply is well below demand - and acquiring assets (equipment, space, unemployed brewers) when other companies are struggling just to pay off loans they used on capacity that they no longer need. You can argue the opportunity cost of expanding too slowly, but they're playing a long game and I think they're playing it well.
