I haven’t been to Liverpool for a while, but I remember this being quite a good pub.

Admittedly things could have changed since I was last there, but I remember the prices being quite good and the selection of beers being impressive at a time before so called craft beer became a mainstream thing.

BTW: Despite it being a short stay, I'll be bringing a full-size suitcase, with the intention of filling up most of it with beer bottles / cans to take home. This was reported to be the best bottle shop in Liverpool: https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/40165/?view=ratings , but someone who recently visited said that they are now out of business. Their website is also down, so I assume this info sadly is correct. Are there any alternative (and preferably centrally located) bottle shops to recommend?

Sorry, can't help you on the bottle shop. I only managed the Ship & Mitre as I was staying in Chester. Nice pub though. Very friendly. Are you staying with family in Liverpool? There's so much more to it than just the city centre.
