Pulpit Rock is releasing their first bottling today, BA Pudgy (vanilla bean stout). Lots of other great PR beers on tap.

Anyone else going? I had some preset plans fall through due to the storm, so I think I'll make it. Planning on bringing some BA TG goodness to share as well. Hope to see a good crowd out for what should be a world class beer.

Is Pudgy barrel aged? Thought it was just aged on 4 different vanilla beans.

Correct, not BA. (Though they do have some barrel-aged stuff in the works!)

I'll be there round noon hopefully in time to grab a bottle - psyched to try the new Raspberry Berliner. Gotta open C&C at 2pm so unfortunately won't be able to hang too long..

Ooooh do you know approximately when they'll have that BA stuff out? I wish I could go today but life gets in the way. Super excited that PR is doing this. Everything I've had from them has been great!

Also, I hope you can get a bottle at noon, but judging from the pics I've seen, it's already pretty crowded...

There are still bottles available, no idea how much longer.

    Pillow Talk is insane

Does anyone here know if Pudgy has ever been sold non-nitro? I assume the bottles are not (could be wrong), and I can't see where they've ever mentioned it being available without nitro.

Does anyone know if the special glassware sold out? I tried connecting with locals for a trade through the Pulpit fb page but I didn't get any bites.

I had mistakenly assumed the release yesterday was of the stuff that's in barrels at the PR tap room.

This was a very well run release. Opened a Pudgy last night and it was excellent.

Got Sticker Shock and I was blown away. The coconut and chocolate are just so well rounded. Pillow Talk was amazing as well. Chunks of pureed raspberry everywhere!

    Heard it from a friend...

The Pudgy release was non-BA and was the leftover base stout that would not fit in the 8 barrels. Meaning it's the same batch as the BA Pudgy and they were just filled early February. Assuming they are aged 10+ months, maybe a year, they might not be out until nearly next Spring (who knows!)...

There is plenty of the special release glassware at the taproom.

This was aged on vanilla beans, I wonder if the base that went inside barrels was also aged on vanilla beans

It would make sense that all the adjuncts would come after they blend the barrels. (coffee, vanilla, etc..) not sure what the answer is to your question though LOL!

I guess I'm curious to know how long they aged this on vanilla beans. If they filled barrels in early February, would they then use the remainder in the tank to age on the beans, then bottle it? If so, that's not even a month, but I'm not sure how long you need to age it to get the full effect from the beans

I feel like those barrels have been in the taproom since pretty much New Years.

    I'm just going off memory.

Adjuncts are added after the barrel aging process. How long you age a beer on adjuncts depends on the adjunct. For example, adding coffee can be (and usually is) done in a few days or less. Vanilla can be anywhere from a few days to a couple months. In this case, a month likely would be more than enough time, although I'm pretty sure those barrels were filled in January. They wouldn't have released it if it needed more time.

They didn't get the barrels until the end of January, they posted a photo of the EMPTY barrels on 1/31 when they got them in, and not filled until the 2nd of February (according to their FB posts).

Pulpit seemed to drop the ball on this one. While they had limits on the beers, you could go through the line as many times as you wanted which is how people have so many bottles. If they are going to limit it, mark hands or something so the hoarders stop hoarding.

I don't think they opened the line back up to seconds until everyone who showed up got a bottle.

I have no issue with this, at all. People showed up expecting one bottle. They didn't sell out, so they let people get more. Seems pretty fair. There was no lottery, no guarantees to any one of anything.

But if it's a Decorah brewery, people will find reason to whine, bitch, moan, complain and make a fuss.

Agreed if everyone there got their initial allotment then let them go through again.

And that is exactly what happened. They didn't do this until the initial line had ended.
