Ran errands in Decorah on Friday, and stopped in at both Pulpit Rock and TG to growler up for a Thanksgiving gathering that night. I get into Pulpit Rock on a fairly regular basis and have really been impressed with what they're doing, so I expected to get a nice Eazy Lover or 5th Ave IPA, but instead noticed something called "For the Joy of Almonds" on the menu. I ordered it, and was blown away. It's a coconut/almond stout on nitro, and it blows DBC out of the park. Just an amazing beer. I'm not too surprised. These guys really know what they're doing, and I've enjoyed the beer there from Day 1. Justin and Bob (the brewers) are often in the tap room and extremely approachable guys who love talking beer. With some good core stuff like Eazy Lover (session IPA), Pour Over (porter) and 5th Ave (west coast) to go with some excellent limited offerings like Mr. Hoppypants (so I've heard - still chasing this) and For the Joy of Almonds, they're really doing good stuff so far and I think their future is bright as hell. Decorah is insanely blessed to have one of the best breweries in the world in TG and a damn good alternative down the street. If you haven't been to Decorah for a beer weekend, do it now.
I'd agree with Mr. Hoppypants being one of the best beers of 2015 I've had. That beer blew me away. I kept going back for pours of it at the Little Giant Beer Summit this summer. World class IPA.
It might be the only one of their beers I haven't had the opportunity to try. I think the next time they put it on, I'll drop any non-work related plans I have and get in.
Challenge accepted! I actually wonder if those growler savers would work or at least help. Topping it off with co2 just to remove headspace and not allow anything gas to escape.
Went there during MD release weekend and loved every beer that they had on tap. Excellent place, plus was able to watch my Spurs on the tv (Go Coys!). Excited to try more of there beers in the future.
So....a blackhawks fan and a spurs fan from minnesota. I bet you were sad when your patriots lost on Sunday! Ha ha just giving you a hard time!
Hey, at least I'm not a Man U, Man City, Chelsea, etc. fan. From Illinois, just residing in Minnesota while I do my grad degree. Am I a FIB though? Started really getting into beer while being here. Anyways, back to Pulpit. I can't remember from my visit there, do they growler all of their beers (non-nitro of course).
They don't growler Hoppypants, IIRC (have tried to get the wife to bring some home; she's gotten to try it). I think, much like their neighbors up the street, they tend not to growler smaller batch stuff. Not positive, but it seems that's the common denominator, as opposed to the nitro factor.
