Southern Tier Pumking started hitting the Western New York area on July 31. Would anyone have any idea as to when we can start seeing this in the Chicago area? I'm itching for my pumpkin beer fix...

Man...this just seems wrong. I know it has been discussed in length before, but...Pumpkin beers in August?? Believe me, I'm all about drinking what you like, when you want, but still...

I was sent Autumn variety packs from a certain brewery on July 12. I sent them back.

Nothing like a massive pumpkin beer on a 95* day.

I still have one from last year. Wonder how it'll be in a few months.

Temperature doesn't seem to be a problem here in Chicago for massive stouts from the county of Bourbon...

Wouldn't know...I had to scum around for 2 bottles during the cold-season release and haven't had a whiff of it since.

*Pumpkin beers on August 2nd make no sense to me*

Having attended the Goose Island BCBCS event at Double Door yesterday evening where a) there was a line about 30 deep when the place opened at 7 PM, and b) the stuff tapped in about 20-25 minutes, the demand for big beers year-round seems to be there.

I do agree, however, that the beer is more appropriate when the season changes. Though from a business perspective, I can see how it would make sense to release the beer early, especially if you can get more product out there in larger quantities and sell all of that extra quantity that is released. (And a beer like Pumking can both sustain itself on shelves for a long period of time and it will sell out in the Chicago area).

Definitely agree that the demand for tasty stouts like BCBS is always going to be there. Hell, I'd drink the stuff every day if I could. I just think there's a difference between a (soon to be?) year-round BA stout and a deliberate seasonal like Pumpking...why even call it a fall seasonal if you're going to release it in August? It seems like these beers have gotten released progressively earlier in the 2 years I've been following those types of things.

Not saying you shouldn't drink up, or that I hate you for doing so, but I just don't get it. In the words of Hulk Hogan, "That's what makes America great brothurrrrrrrr."

I've had Pumking aged for a year before and it was still drinking great. But they switched the recipe up a little last year, so I'm not sure how last year's would be drinking now, but I'm guessing it would still be pretty tasty..
