I have been in the market for a pump because gravity feeding my plate chiller is a pain. I came across this from home depot. http://www.homedepot.com/p/Wayne-1-10-HP-Portable-Transfer-Utility-Pump-PC2/100047107 It looks to have the same design as the March/chugger pumps with the stainless head and its 70$ cheaper. Anyone have any info on this? Based on the reviews it looks like a good buy.
Maximum temp for that is 120*F which is not enough to take the hot wort flowing through it to the platechiller, to recirc, to whirlpool, to run off the mash to the kettle, to run the liquor from the HLT to the MLT. That and it is chrome plated bronze and not SS. Nothing about being food safe either. I would go for a Chugger with the plastic head for about $100.
This is what I use to circulate hot wort and it's under 40 bucks. It is tiny, but does a respectable job. I gravity feed my chiller and use this to recirculate the wort back to the kettle. Inlet is 1/2" and outlet is 3/8" which is not optimum to feed a chiller, but could be made to work. DC power comes from a spare transformer. Caveat: it's really small . . . the Chugger Pump crowd will sneer at you.
