Has anyone had any experience using a drill pump to transfer wort? They're relatively inexpensive and seem like a better option that the current auto syphon that I still use from the starter kit 15 years ago.

Maybe use some braided washing machine hose on each end and just sanitize before each use?

I do not, but I can think of a few concerns.

Hot wort and plastic don't mix well. The plastic should be FDA, and heat rated too.

Not sure you can sanitize the pump very well.

They are designed to pump water out of your basement or maybe move antifreeze from your radiator, which is not anything like food.

You would be saving $50? Which is real but also not worth risking shitty beer imo.

Homebrewing is 100% make it up as you go, improvise, improve, re-purpose and try things. So, go for it.
    Cheers.

Gravity + spigot for fermenter...muscles/spigot for kettle  ...works great for 5 gal. or less.

It's more for transferring from primary to secondary, so the heat shouldn't be a problem.

Good point on sanitizing the pump, thought was to run sanitized liquid through it for a couple min, the transfer.

Still debating getting the fastferment which would make this a non issue, but the bad recirev scare me on that.

In that instance you should be certain you can do this without aerating the wort, which seems unlikely.

I personally wouldn't do this.id rather by a stainless food grade pump.
