I am going to make a pumpkin beer this week that I pitch on top of the WLP002 yeast my mild is working on right now. Here's what I am thinking:

    3 gallon batch

    5lbs Rahr 2-row
    8oz c60
1 can of 100% pumpkin, mashed?

.65oz Challenger hops at 60 min

    Wlp002 yeast

    Vanilla
    Cinnamon
    Nutmeg

I am looking for an easy drinking beer. Do I need to mash the canned pumpkin? How would you guys change the recipe?

Me I would just skip the pumpkin, and yes you need to mash it. Unfortunately though pumpkin is very low in starch content so you wont get much out of it in terms of grav points.

What would I change? I would make a porter in stead of a pale. The chocolately flavors blend really well with pumpkin pie spices (which i would suggest adding some ginger, allspice, and clove to the mix as well)
