First time drinking Pumking and I'm not impressed.. tastes bitter. The Shipyard Smashed Pumpkin is my top so far.

I know, NOT another pumpkin beer thread!

I am amazed at how many NEW pumpkin brews are in the works every late summer / fall season, and this year is no exception.....it seems there are more pumpkin ales, porters, stouts, even barleywine styles coming out all the time...

    Here is what I think is new for 2013;

Anderson Valley Fall Hornin' Pumpkin Ale (bottles and cans)
    Crown Valley Imperial Pumpkin Ale
    Almanac Heritage Pumpkin Barleywine
Cigar City Good Gourd Almighty (rum barrel aged)
Erie Brewing Johnny Rails Pumpkin Ale
Lancaster Brewing Baked Pumpkin Pie Ale
Old Forge Brewing Pumpkin Ale (16 oz can)
Lake Placid Brewing Ubu Pumpkin Ale
    Thomas Creek Pumpkin Ale
    Starr Hill Pumpkin Porter
Harpoon Brewing Imperial Pumpkin Stout (1/2 ale / 1/2 stout)
    Southern Tier Warlock Pumpkin stout
    Philadelphia Brewing Kenz-O-Lantern
    Penn Brewing Pumpkin Roll Ale
    New Belgium Pumpkick
Kentucky / Alltech brewing Pumpkin Barrel Ale (aged in bourbon barrels)

Have I missed any new ones? What NEW pumpkin brews have you tried and enjoyed or are you most looking forward to trying? PLEASE do not post "ST Pumking" or some other pumpkin beer that has been around for a long time!

It is cool also that more and more are coming out in cans.....should be a good autumn season!

Alewerks Pumpkin Ale or ST Pumking...tough to decide between the two.

2 Road's Roadsmary's Baby is one that I'm looking forward to trying. I also did find a bottle or two of Weyebacher imperial pumpkin in the back of the fridge. I don't know they survived last fall. I'll try that shortly as soon as we get into September. I told myself i wouldn't get into pumpkin beers and fall brews till at least september.

I just received a fresh bottle of Good Gourd...do I HAVE to drink this fresh? Or can I wait till, lets say Thanksgiving, when its appropriate?

    Blasphemy.

I got a case of Dogfish Punkin Ale last night and I love it. I still think Weyerbacher Imperial Pumpkin Ale is better though.

I went to a Chowder Fest with a friend once, and we discussed the ballot as we were filling ours out. There were 7 contenders and we judged 2 absolutely superior to the rest and 3 essentially fake and watery. There are certain standards by which a clam chowder should be evaluated and we thought those 2 hit them spot on, with one slightly better rounded than the other. You can guess where I'm going with this--the 3 we judged inferior and fake ended up taking the top 3 spots in the vote. Either popular tastes don't conform to culinary standards (think--why do people drink BMC when better beer is available?) or people are idiots. Take your pick.

To make the long story short, I have as much faith in blind tastings as I do in most opinions.--always take them with a grain of salt. If you've ever taken the Pepsi Challenge, you might have noticed that they serve Coke at a higher temp than the Pepsi. Any similar unintentional variation can affect the outcome of a supposedly fair blind tasting. So if I were in the store, looking for pumpkin beer, I might give Alewerks more consideration than I would have otherwise. But the blind tasting will not make me run out and buy one (not that they distribute here).

If they wanted you to drink it at Thanksgiving, why would they be selling it now?
If they wanted you to drink it fresh, why would they call it a "seasonal" and put pumpkin in it?
    Hope this helps.

It would have been a great help if your answers weren't questions. Should I be answering them? Then again, I cant answer them because they are fully related to my initial question(s).
