False! As of 8/11 there is no such thing as a good pumpkin beer. Wait until late October and I’ll re-acess.

Ya, but some of the good beers will be gone if you don't buy now.

My two favorites -- and frankly just about the only two pumpkin ales I've enjoyed -- used to be Schlafly Pumpkin and Pumking. However, I thought that both beers were shells of their former selves last year. It seemed pretty clear that the increased quantity produced resulted in big dips in quality. I'm gonna pick up a bottle of each and hope for the best, but I can't say I'm confident that anything will have swung back in the right direction.

I might grab a bottle of Shipyard's Smashed Pumpkin, as I always thought that it was a good honorable mention.

Was Pumking until trying Keuka Brewing pumpkin cream ale. Had it right after Pumking for comparison and it was fantastic !

Being from DE my first and favorite has to be Punkin, after that I have to say elysian has the pumpkin thing nailed and I hope to get my hands on punkccino. Besides that I enjoy most all pumpkin beers including the much hated pumpkinhead, its my session pumpkin beer (when that becomes the next new trend remember I started it). The only one I have had a hard time with is pumking. I want to like it but there is a flavor there that gets me. I don't know if its too much nutmeg either way I will try again this year and can't wait to crack the warlock in the fridge.

Smuttynose Pumpkin Ale: natural, fresh tasting gourd, mild, subtle spicing on a very solid base. It has a crisp dry finish and a healthy dose of hops.

Pumking is great but not so easy to find for me.

    2.Schafly (when I can get it out-of-state)
    3.Saint Arnold Pumpkinator
4.Buffalo Bills (I know I know, it's blasphemy, but it was the first pumpkin beer, and one of the first craft beers, I ever had and I just loved the strong spicing which was so different than BMC).

I love pumpkin beer but this guy is above and beyond. Dude is awesome. If you enjoy pumpkin brews this blog is worth following. Reviews over 80 pumpkin beers last year.

We kept a Rogue Pumpkin Patch and a ST Warlock from last season, had them a few months ago, not worth stashing, IMO.

Shipyard Pumpkinhead is really good when it comes to tasting like pumpkin, but that's all it has.

ST Pumking. Got my first Warlock and want to try.
Shipyard Smashed Pumpkin. Not at all like Pumpkinhead. It's like a pumpkin barleywine.

I used to think Pumpking was the best, but it's slipped over the years.

Alaskan Pumpkin Porter is very tasty. I have an easier time tasting pumpkin in that beer than most standard pumpkin ales I come across.

Regarding shipyard pumpkinhead, I'm having one now. It tastes like pumpkin but it seems off. Kinda like generic cola versus coke or generic ice cream versus premium.

It tastes good, it's just off somehow.
