Are there any? Near Magdeburg? I can't find any in either of the two craft beer stores in the whole city.

I haven't seen any German brewers who are making pumpkin beers. Your best bet is going to be an import. That said, I have yet to meet a German that likes pumpkin pie (or knows how to make one), so there might not be enough demand for specialty shops to bring that style in.

    LOL! :grinning:

Guess my enjoyment of the classic American dessert (but not any beer attempting assimilation) doesn't come from my German heritage.

I made a pumpkin pie spiced beer last year. Otherwise, they don't exist in Germany. You can't even find American pumpkins in Germany except a few weeks before Halloween. Once those are sold out, you won't see them for another year. You can, however, find Hokkaido pumpkins most of the year round in supermarkets. Other than that, wait for Christmas time and you'll find Festbiere, where you'll find a spiced beer once and a while. Or come over to my place around Christmas for a Lebkuchen Braun Ale, which I'm going to brew in a few weeks again.

Pumpkin soup is very popular in Germany,... try some of that, it's delicious.

What's funny is that now that I think of it, you can find Kurbiskernbrotchen (pumpkin seed rolls) at the local bakeries. Die Frau was a big fan.

On second thought, I found this from Brauerei Hofstetten in Austria. Quick Google search found that.

Seems it won a Bronze in the European Beerstar, the most prestigious beer competition in Europe.

Another site, http://www.kuerbisbier.de, Hausler Hof, a commercial farm, made a beer in 2003, but "Leider durften wir zu Erntedank das Kürbis-Bier nicht mehr nachbrauen.

    "

Translation: "Unfortunately we're not re-brewing the Harvest/Thanksgiving pumpkin beer. In Bavaria only beer which follows the RHG may be brewed. When other ingredients are introduced during brewing (e.g. such as pumpkin seeds), one can't call it beer any more.

For the Pumpkin Fest 2004 we will find a solution for you in order to offer you our 'Kurbis-Bier' again. Either well brew the beer abroad (Czech or Austria) or we'll give it a new appellation. For example: "Kürbis-Beer", "Pumkin-Beer", "Kürbis-Trunk" oder "Kürbis-Pilsener"

The last update to this site was "Letzte Aktualisierung: 23.11.03"

That's all that Google's got for me. It seems you can order from Brauerei Hofstetten... well, each time I try to click on their webshop site, I get redirected to the Telekom site because it can't find it.

This past Sunday, mein Frau and I visited the local KÜRBISAUSSTELLUNG in Ludwigsburg just as we did last year. Yeah, pumpkins are a real thing in Germany, but not pumpkin beer... you can get pumpkin Prosecco though.

Also, pumpkin pie doesn't exist in Germany either... when my wife gave some to our neighbors they were a bit freaked out by the idea of eating pumpkin like that and they didn't like it.

No pumpkin pie in Italy either. Tortelloni alla zucca(pumpkin tortelloni) are big in these parts in autumn though, though a little sweet for a savory dish for my taste.
As far as pumpkin beer goes, I know Baladin makes a pumpkin beer called simply "Zucca" if I remember correctly. No idea if it's available anywhere in Germany.
